Who hangs their chainsaw from a caritool?

Hi all. Just wondering if most of you hang large saws from caritools. I'm using the Edge saddle (Ergo Lite), and it has a caritool slot on each side for hanging a saw. Problem is, I have a little issue with hanging an $800 saw from a $7 piece of unrated plastic. So I have been using a Kong HMS instead. But I miss the caritool's flat back and retainer clip! The Kong swivels back and forth as I remove and replace the saw. Also, the Kong tends to snag the saw lanyard- it's not ideal. I've looked at alternatives like the ISC Paddle but it doesn't have a flat back either.

So...... What do you guys use? And how sweet would a rated (aluminum) caritool be? I should note that I'm a little old school in that I just use a short lanyard for my saws- no use of the attachment point on the back of the saddle. Seems to get in the way.

Also, can't emphasize enough how much I've learned from this forum. I've been climbing for a long time, but have consistently been impressed by the innovations and techniques seen here. Thanks in advance to all.

I use the same set up as Tom. Have not had a problem with the large caritool but have busted a few small ones. I've been using the same large caritool for several years now and it has held a 200, 440, and on occasion an 880.

I hang 460's and 660's from my LG caritool with no problems. I do have a long lanyard attached in the back though. I had a 200t get knocked off the caritool in weird sequence of events. But it just hung from the lanyard.

Another same as Tom. I've never had anything bigger than a 460 on it.

I have an edge too. I got a large caritool in on the right side behind the side d too. It's back a bit and every once in a while I wrap it in red tape to give it some contrast to that black side d. I clip my lanyard right to left so it's not a huge deal, but if you ever clipped into that caritool instead of a d... ouch.

I replace the tape often.. wish they came in a high vis color too.

I've been through three Caritools, one actually broke, the other two just got so sprung the gate would not close anymore.

I'd buy a alloy Caritool at the drop of a hat.

I use the large caritool as well to hang my saws. But the saw is attached to a lanyard that secures to a more permanent place on the back of my harness.

I use an Edge saddle as well, I hang my 200 on a small caritool by the right d ring. The end of my saw lanyard goes on a lg caritool directly behind the small one. When I go up to a larger saw, I switch the lanyard end to a paddle biner and hang the saw on the lg caritool.

Thanks for replies. I guess I should just get with the program and use the attachment point on the back of the saddle with a longer lanyard.

I still think Petzl (or another manufacturer) could clean up if they offered an alloy caritool, or at least a pear shaped biner with a flat back to prevent swivel on the hip.

Komet makes an aluminum version. It's made for the butterfly but will work in the edge. Problem? It's like $50. Shelter Tree care products in North Attleboro MA sells them if you're interested.

I'm very interested in an aluminum caritool. I've never broken one, but i've had a saw caught by my lanyard twice due to caritools. These intances wouldn't have happened if i had paid closer attention while playing around in dense canopies, but the second time I pushed the gaye out.of the frame, I swore.off caritools.

I used to use caritools but one day after climbing all day in the sun I accidentally clipped my lanyard to the caritool instead of the D ring. Needless to say it broke and I went for a nice swing. Ever since I have been reluctant to put one back on my saddle.

never ever ever,, why put a plastic d ring type thingy anywhere near a d ring,, i only look somestimes when i clip my buckstrap in spikes or not? so my non locking pear shape rated biner catches my snap i can put my weight on it.. good luck with plastic,, no disrespect to petzel ,, but i try not to enter non rated stuff to my hips!,, is it big flat and lite yes,, that might be the problem!
