White Pine in White Bear Lake, MN

Why did the tree have to be removed?

[/ QUOTE ]

Tom, the tree had root, butt, and trunk rot compromising stability. We determined it was safe to climb and rig at this time, but the tree was Moderate/High risk in my estimation. In the first photo, notice the constricted area where the GRCS is mounted. I also posted a close-up of the buttress.

How long was he in the spurs?

Jamin, Seamus spent about 2, maybe 2.5 hours in this tree.

T, Why did you use the GRCS, and not the bollard for it, OR a Port-a-wrap?

[/ QUOTE ]

Brent, I prefer to use the GRCS because the option is always there to raise a load, pre-tension, take in slack while tops are coming over, etc. For example, this tree had a half dozen long, low limbs over the neighbor's side of the fence. I was able to pull/raise them easily without even using the crank handle. The rigging was not giant so the bollard was not necessary. Sure, we could have used a Porty but I like having other options when available.

I understand, pre-tensioning laterals. But, scuttlebutt is that the capstan on the GRCS is likely to polish up, and lose effective grip. Once the broughs are off, wouldn't slipping in the bollard SAVE wear and tear on the GRCS.

Perhaps I am missing something here. Are you saying you are pre-tensioning the pieces cut off the main stem?

Good Job BTW!
