My guy dropped a tree we didnt see the nest in today. Ouch...a couple stings. Bee spray works great to knock them down. I just went out tonight and sprayed the bees that were swarming onto the remaining trunk. I woould never try clipping them out like that. They are way too aggressive if it isnt done swiftly like that.
Luckily my one employee called in sick this am. He is highly alergic
the nest had to have been sprayed first, although most of the wasps would be out during the day. Save your lighter fluid next time and just get up earlier with a pesticide and hose them down in their sleep.
They are fascinating insects - I had to spray a small nest during a job recently, and watched this giant queen come crawling out of the soaked nest to escape the burning chemicals. She was as big as a small mouse.
NFW..
We went out to prune 3 ornamental trees and there was the nest. Thank God it was so obvious.... Near end of the day and we needed to get them gone.. I had just been out at a farm where I buy eggs and saw them do something similar to capture a mass of swarming honey bees. I checked the hornet nest out really well to make sure there was only one clipable limb holding it up.. If it was two limbs they'd have found me on the end of that pole clip before the second clip. They were watching me too.
