Which company would you buy from i-80 equipment or Schmiddy's

We are trying to make a decision about purchasing a use Chipper Truck from i-80 equipment or Schmiddy's. We have heard not so good things and are hoping someone has information to help us make our decision.

Thanks,
Treeman, AZ

What difference does it make. You buy used it is up to you to check over the unit. I have been buying used for looong time. You never trust the seller's opinion. You just have to have a good eye and be competent at appraising. You will have to fix stuff more than a new unit but then you don't have the payment of a new unit...same same. Repairs become your monthly payment.

Taking a box truck, throwing a boom on it with a chip box and saying the front axle is rated for it. I've got 3 medium and heavy trucks and have scrapped 3 other mediums and I couldn't look at a 14 k front axle and tell the difference between a 18 k of different years, brands etc.,especially if the truck was being sold as a road ready unit. That's 1 of the complaints from Schimdy's that I read

Google problems with/complaints about......

That's not the gospel on anything but, I had read enough to know I could find the complainant. And having found that person I could get enough info out of them to know if it were a really bad idea.

Then...... I would send them out to the nicest dinner for saving my bacon.

Can't say I'd never buy a remount because I bought one (and only one) but it was remounted by the manufacturer and came with a 50 page outsourced inspection document that it passed everything.

Ha, ha I was thinking about this thread today. We live in 2016 where info is at your fingertips if you search for it, not 1916 where newspaper or knowing someone who personally had a catastrophic experience was your only source of info.

I love google and I love TreeBuzz.

My finance broker wont do business with Schmiddies.

So your saying you better pay cash with them, right;) Bet they would love that!! If your broker won't deal with them that says a lot about their operation. I would think a company that sells equipment would have a GREAT working relationship with brokers and banks. Most can not pay 60-160K for equipment so they need to finance it.
There your answer right there.......STAY AWAY

The chain of events I recall were a specific person being royaly screwed up by a transaction with him. He started a thread (actually in addition to posting on another forum) and that guy came on to defend himself.

Interestingly I would not need to hear a complainants thoughts or issues. That guys defense (some of which he erased) told me everything I needed to know.

which is STAY AWAY!!! Imagine if there was a homeowner online forum that talked about homeowner related issues. Imagine being a tree service and hearing tons of people, most of who you don't even know, talk trash about you on this forum because of operating a poor tree service. Amazing how fast bad business travels. I do my best everyday with customer service and my reputation for that very reason. All it takes it to piss a few people off and BOOOM.. There hopes your reputation.

Agreed Royce. But, in the old days you could screw people over one at a time , if that was a persons bent, and it seemed some could get away with it. NOT ANYMORE. STAY AWAY!!!!

I hate social injustice. Right after that - the stories I have read of people being maliciously screwed over on a big purchase of tree equipment. Arb work is hard enough. Keeping new equipment in good shape is hard enough. Being purposly lied to on a deal that is going to cost you thousands of dollars in multiple different ways - unacceptable.

True, think of used car salesmen from years ago. Now way to really give a review. Someone new in town, or passing through is the perfect target.

We have one here. One lady took issue on something 30 years ago with my service. Took a couple of swipes until others came forward and defended me. I recall she told me to remove a huge silver maple with totally dead canopy that had just dropped a lead next to her house. We made a deal ( I rarely do writtens).

I called her when ready to go and she wasn't home and we went ahead and did it. She was trying to refuse to pay. It wasn't a big gap in time. I was ready to have her charged with "theft of services" which local city Solicitor has done for me before as he knows I am an up and up person. She paid...end of issue...I thought.

A guy tried to defame the local hardware store last week and said his wife was screamed at for parking in front of the store. The store has huge signs saying not to park unless ".....customers". He told me he just told her to move before the tow truck got there (it had got that bad). Lots of people came to the store's defense but he got many on his side with what may have been lies for revenge.

Tough having that forum "Neighbor's Forum" I think, as someone said, they can really nail you.

I see the old thread was "Beware of Schmidy's Machinery" started in Dec. of 2014. A google search yeilded that and other things including a Better Business Rating of F and multiple lawsuits.

Treevet I'm not sure I follow your line of thinking. Do you find any fault with people posting this info about Schmidy's here?

When I am ready to buy something (already know I want to buy) I check for negative reviews. If the worst other people have to say about something is not an issue for me then I am all the more confident in my purchase.

Some issue a customer had with you 30 years ago would have next to zero negative impact on your business, and your raving fans postings would propel you forward.

Thread listed above has some equipment companies that come highly recommended by the way.

No you got me wrong...I like that bad companies are revealed. Just commenting on above mentioned neighborhood forums which have a huge effect on your reputation and can be maligned by one maybe not so honest person.
