Which Camera: Canon or Nikon

Wish I had tried one of those years ago when my dad used to own a pawn shop (10 cents on the dollar). But I was not into photos then.

This subject brought something to mind last night ...

How expensive is a good camera and lensed these days for a professional, compared to the 1960s or 1970s.

For example, say if it took a full month's wages for someone to buy a pro camera and lenses back then, what about now?

Would it be 2 week's of income now? Two month's worth of wages?

Or expressed another way, half as expensive now, or 30% more, etc.?

For a pro body and glass (assuming a variety of lenses) you can very quickly blow 2 months wages. Check out one of the pro camera shops online like Calumet for example, scope out the prices. When I say pro I mean the best quality available. There's plenty of wiggle room in between consumer, "pro-sumer" and actual pro level equipment. Depends what your requirements are.

I'm more familiar with Canon gear, their pro lenses (red trim on the lens barrel) are superb but you'll suffer sticker shock just looking at the prices.

I think pro quality photography is much more expensive now, there's all the digital hardware and software overhead, never mind the body and lens costs.

I looked at the 5 lenses I would like to have it is over $10,000.00
A canon 1D mark IV is $5,000.00 and a 5D mark II is $2,500.00
A computer and hard drive is at least $2,000.00
Software $1,500-$2,000

I guess it's relative to how much you make per month.
