When Bartlett opens an office in your town....

Leeeeeviiiiii.

I'm listening...

There were already a bazillion gozillionaires there. What's the problemo?

Bartlett is not a franchise afaik and yes, for a large company they do ok work and they definitely cater to super high end clients.

I'd rather have Bartlett move into the hood rather than more Half Price Harrys. Bartlett won't drive prices down.

SAT just bought out Tulsa’s biggest and most expensive tree service. They are even more expensive now, which is good for the market. They have offered me a job twice or possibly a buy out/no compete, same with RL&T. (My company is the only one in the city of Tulsa with an BCMA on staff, and they don’t like that).

Bartlett seems to focus on high quality work, vs SAT’s numbers. I would rather have them!

I find that Bartlett drives prices up as well. Easy to get a job after Bartlett bid it.

I will say that amongst all of the corporate tree companies, I like Bartlett the best. I’ve met some high caliber individuals out of that company. That being said, they were one in a million. Bartlett bought out the “big” company when I was in Spokane and the only guys I liked were the guys that stayed on. I wasn’t too impressed with all of the new hires they were getting (the turnover was pretty wild) nor the work they produced. Quantity goes up, quality goes down. And they were the most expensive in town. Just doesn’t sit right.

I'm just generally opposed to the corporatization of my little cow town. It's a sign of decline in our local culture. Not long ago people here would be ashamed to hire a company like Bartlett. Think global ski local is what we used to say. It's not good for the community, these corporations. They have no roots here.

Everyone who worked for the biz they bought quit almost immediately because it sucks to work at corporate tree. Especially if you're a freedom loving patriotic mountain boy who doesn't want to update progress on an app every 5 minutes...

They have a whack phc program which will also have negative effects on the local environment.

The do charge a lot and also pay the least. You can make more $$ washing dishes then what they offer. And the sales guys get pressured to sell work that isn't necessary to meet these quotas. And if they don't hit their numbers for the year they miss their entire commission, that's pretty fucked up.

Our little town just change a lot and mostly for the worse. Corporate tree cos just another sign of the encroaching whackness... nothing we can do about it though. Another big shop here just sold to save a tree. It was a cool, local, independent shop. Now it's just a soulless corporate money hole.

I don't really care much anymore, just got triggered for a minute when I saw this Bartlett truck rolling by so I made this post which is mostly a joke. Also, fuck Bartlett and all the other corporate money grabbers. I hope their acquisitions fail.

This place was a weird phenomenon for awhile. We didn't have corporate trees or pick up truck hackers. It's was a tree workers utopia for awhile, glad I got to be a part of it!
Thank you for clarifying your original message: All of your concerns are of course valid and possible. Well said.

But these days individual entrepreneurs must assume a great deal of risk when trying to keep "legacy" businesses alive. In some cases, these "traditional" businesses cooperate/coordinate with like-minded enterprises to support common traditions, sensibilities, trusts, and practices.

But individual circumstances may just as likely cause some local folks to view Bartlett's arrival in town as a welcome opportunity. It sounds like Bartlett could provide qualified training, professional certifications, trade-craft, and employment for a number of interested locals. And in my perfect world, those skilled arborists will choose to remain in their communities, where you'll all be happy--I hope.

What's the deal with Mountain? There's some local guys that used to work for them. They generally sing their praises.
For starters, they require that you be on spurs at all times. They bid super low and do hacky work, but they've got mountains of trucks and chippers, so they do a lot of PG&Es work, and tons of people see their trucks and just assume that they must be good if they have that many trucks. They love to sell people on hat-racking their trees.

I have heard it said, by someone I believe, that the owners are openly racist, and insist on always hiring Mexicans over white guys. I know several white guys that worked for them, so obviously they do hire some, but it's a good indication of how deep their backlog is.

They do a lot of work for PG&E without homeowners consent. I don't know how they get away with that. Those are some broad things. The personal stories I have heard from a lot of folks around here galling.

Same thing happened here. Many who left with the takeover started their own gigs or went to other companies. Some other companies got great climbers and crew
