What trailer for an Easylift 87-48AJ or 101-48AJ?

Been thinking about getting one of these lifts for a long time. I believe there are some guys on this forum who own these machines. Not interested in loading it on a dedicated truck----do any of you use trailers? If yes, what lenght?

Long. Probably 20-24’ if you buy a normal trailer, a tilt deck will let you get away with a shorter deck than a flat deck with ramps.

Tow Bandit makes a funny looking, light weight steel trailer for the CMC that would likely fit that and keep it under 10k, and therefore CDL. The Aluma 8220 is a great option too, I wish we had one of those for our CMC.

Bauxlite (Pine Hill Trailers) is working on building a tilt deck aluminum spider lift trailer specifically for Tracked Lifts, but you didn’t hear that from me. I may have had a close up look at a prototype.

We have 2 EZ Lifts and absolutely love their reliability and the company is fantastic to work with. The best trailers are: PJ Trailer 82 x 22' split deck tilt (16' tilt and 6' stationary deck x 74" wide tilt deck) 10k Jack. It has dexter torsion axles and electric brakes. It has 14,000 GVW. We purchased the PJ with our first EZ Lift which was the 101- 48AJ and then when we purchased our 87-48AJ we didn't think twice about getting the same one it works so well. You definitely don't want a trailer with ramps. You can't go wrong with the split deck tilt. We got the 22' so we would have a little extra room for a piece of equipment or Arbor Mats etc. It comes in handy.

Over the 5 years of my 87-48 ownership, I’ve done everything from dump trailer, dedicated truck, to flat bed.

Mission Trailers makes some awesome units. I have an 18’ with folding ramps. It’s fully aluminum, with a 14,000 GVW and over 12,000 of payload. Even if you had to factory derate the GVW to 10,000, you’d still have plenty of payload for the 87-48.

I first started with a 14,000 GVW MAXXED Low Profile Dump Trailer with a 7x14 box. I let the basket hang over the rear doors with a red flag on it. That was when I needed the versatility of a dump trailer.

Thanks very much fellas! Next question----101, or 87? Happy with the one you have, or wish you had the other? @Wisconsin Climber , I guess my question for you is: which one? If you had to pick only 1?

I have only wanted more vertical reach on less than a handful of occasions. The trees in my area just don’t seem to require it. I usually manage more spread than more height

There have also been a number of advancements on the 87 since I bought mine. New and old both get the job done but, from what I have seen, the newer edition has a quieter engine. There are also a few nice features for ease of operation while in the basket, like auto engine RPM up/down.

If we were only getting one EZ Lift we would get the 101'. We do a lot of crane work and the extra 14' makes a big difference. The machines are the same dimensions. The 101' has one more extension on the boom. We can't say enough about the EZ Lifts. We had other brand lifts that had a little more side reach but they were very temperamental with lots of sensors that would act up constantly. We were forever troubleshooting at the jobsite which cost us a lot of time and money. The parts/sensors were expensive too.

The real question is what tilt deck length would be required to have a mini on the front and still have enough length for the lift?

In my opinion the 101 compared to the 87 is hard to justify the steep price difference.

I put a deposit on the 87 2 weeks ago. Really wanted the hoeflon C10 but they are being delivered in Q1 of 2023 can't wait that long. Thanks @oceans for letting us come down last fall and seeing the fleet. Definitely helped in the decision process.

My pleasure, Will. Congratulations on your lift purchase! I’m curious now, knowing a bit about your operation, how are you and your Bro planning on setting up your trucking. Are you getting another truck or just a trailer?

Thanks I appreciate it. Our plan is to initially haul it in our dumptrailor with our 3/4 ton dodge pulling it. mini in the back of the chiptruck hauling chipper. In time get a full tiltdeck or a split tiltdeck to aid in lift transport. I'd like to get the lift first and then decide what would work best. I'm thinking either a 20' or 24" tilt would work. Dimond C makes a killer trailor but optioned out I'd be close to 18k with all the bells and whistles. Decisions, Decisions.

I'm definitely looking forward to this season.

Long term, I’d see if you can get the 87-48 onto a 10k GVW trailer and aim to buy another higher GVW truck to pull it. That way you can have a truck capable of being more than a mule for the Lift trailer.

I definitely think your on to something with that recommendation. I'd be atleast 1-3 years before I could swing that purchase Thanks @oceans. I checked out missions trailor online. Looks well built and heavy-duty. Do you find the 18" length is enough for the 87?

I think an 18’ mission is plenty for that easy lift.

I have a 20’ mission rated for 10K. The trailer itself weighs 1500 lbs so the easy lift 87 would have you close to max capacity but would be under cdl class A.

Mission will custom build your trailer and will add stronger axles and strengthen the frame. Like other manufacturers, they can de rate it to 10K for you.

I have the same question, but what I really want to know is could I get my avant 420 loader on the trailer with a lift? Our trees arn’t that big so I might only need the 70 foot lift EZ LIFT makes

Tried getting quotes for the 18-20ft mission trailor from multiple outfits. They said they are not quoting any new trailors due to the lead time being over a year out. Insane!

If anyone wants to sell this style trailor I'm looking. I would also settle for a good condition tilt deck.

Thanks everybody. 87-48AJ should be here next week.
