What rope are you using for the rope runner???

That's nice for sure. We don't have any decent retailers around that I know of. Small vermeer dealer with a small sherrill section about an hour away.

We have a new vermeer dealer, but I haven't bothered stopping by yet.

I didn't even know that most folks bought gear online for my first couple of years.

But seriously, velocity, vortex, arbormaster, and tachyon have no chance when I throw in my samson static as a RR option.

I think I've used 3/8 samson static for light rigging and it is stiff, which makes it resistant to the nicely set, compact knots I like to see on the end of my climb lines. Am I thinking of the right rope?

It certainly sounds like that rope. It's akin to ascending a stick. Ties knots kind of the same way that a school bus turns.

I think mine is slightly bigger than 3/8. I'll have to look and see exactly (technically an arborist climb line may not be less than 11mm according to ansi. I found out at a class this summer)

I just bought a brand new RR and a brand new hank of 7/16th New England KM-III. The damn rope slides right through the RR (much like the Samson Velocity 11mm and the Sterling HTP 11mm, I criticized earlier). The previous hank of KM-III worked beautifully right out of the package. The old RR's don't do any better. What's going on?!

I like to use the RR with the bollard wide open. I've not had good results from messing with that upper bollard--too tight and it becomes a struggle to ascend without much gains on the slippage problem.

The place you'll want to add friction in your RR setup would be at the lower arm bollard. That can allow for the bird bollard adjustment to stay more open. The lower arms just don't have enough leverage in stock configuration on thinner ropes to get the job done for some folks...lighter climbers may have success. You may want to try a Baby Bump body to get some added lower friction.

Is the new cougar not as good?

Looking at blue moon (or any of the other yale 11.7s) too... is the baby bump gonna be made available again?

Just pick any 11.7. You will be mint. I am really getting back into my runners. And I only run 11.7s . Just durable all round SRT ropes. A broken in runner wide open will be mint on any 11.7.

I don't know about the new cougar. When it went out of stock on TS I started my search for a new rope. Still searching. I use the bump and i'm only 165 soaking wet. I really liked the runner on scanners. Worked great MRS and SRS. Used it for everyday crane work.
