What is this hellish squealing? Stihl 194

Location
Ames
The Stihl 194 in the video below squealed the day I bought it, but twas the last one on the shelf. the tech who started it said I could just use it and if it doesn't go away bring it back for repair if it doesn't go away. My experience is at schools it squeals when 1st started and not so much after it gets a bit warmed up, squeal ceases after about 15 seconds in the below video.

now halfway through the 90-day warranty, I want to figure out the next step. I had found some results about it possibly being a clutch issue.

anyone else deal with this issue before?

Lack of lube somewhere, heated up the thin lube spreads out and quiets it, but bad. Most likely the needle bearing (or bushing?) between crank/clutch and clutch drum. Take the chain off and try for the sound. Look for metal shavings in the clutch area, scoring, bluing like said and pull the clutch apart to so check and confirm bearing lube.

ps video won't play for me

Thanks for the thoughts, sorry just responding, not sure how to get my posts notifications to pop up on my phone...

didn't find any metal shavings, only some kind of residue with a reddish hue...

You know the entire clutch inside is the "nut" to take off to get to the bearing? get the loosen direction correct, use impact or rope stuffed in cylinder as crankshaft holder

did it squeal with no chain? (and brake Off/free spinning)

ATH said it...needle cage bearing under the clutch drum. Above is a link to the assembly under the clutch from a Stihl ms200t which is similar to that of the ms194t...cheap and easy...hope it helps.

That clutch spring on the bottom looks stretched out as well, might be the angle . If you replace them, do all 3.

I would say just do the whole clutch...but it sounds like the saw was purchased new +/- 6 weeks ago?

Take it back to dealer and push really hard for a new saw...or have them replace the entire clutch assembly, drum, oil pump, worm gear, and clutch cover/brake. That should take care of the squeal.

Yesterday I heard a non-PPE'ed, lackadaisical uninterested day worker groundworker using a 194T to one hand cut brush, using a saw that made the same sound, also with a dull chain. ESL boss, ESL worker both barely speaking English, different ESL's. Go figure. But I got to hear the sound in real life.

I have a 194 that did this also. From day one. Took it back to the dealer a few times and they'd do something and it would go away for a bit and usually come back. Now I just live with it and curse the saw when I rarely use it.

Try cleaning that needle cage bearing from under the clutch drum with brake clean. Then hole it on the end of a grease gun with a finger covering the open end and pump to pack the bearing. You will see grease squeeze out around the needles. Roll it around, re install and wipe off excess. It should fix your problem unless the bearing is bad. If bearing is bad do the same but with the new bearing. I use Lucas red and tacky because that is what I have on hand. I would avoid grease with moly.
