What Hitch Is This?

I was wondering if someone could tell me what kind of friction hitch is being shown by Sterling Ropes on pg 9 of the Nov. TCI Mag? It looks like a variation of a VT hitch, but I haven’t seen the last braid wrapped like this before.

It sort of looks similar to the one I randomly came up with and posted on here in the forum called "does this hitch have a name" or something like that

My vote: Distel

Looks like something Roachy made up years ago.. he called it the "turner twist", cause he's from turnersville NJ.. Don't know if he still uses it, but it is self tending... no need for a micro pulley.. there was a thread on it here at TB, circa 2002-3.. Big Jon showed me the knot around that time.

Knut or TK. I have a hard time remembering what is what. They differ in the way the turns go around or something like that. Almost like a distel and a swabish(spelling?) are different than each other.

I think it does look more like a Distal than Knut, the latter (Knut) has a distinct ring formed at the bottom which makes it virtually self tending.

Since I climb on an auto-block (lazy man frenchy) I can see why many might think of that picture as being a VT but I would not call it a VT since the braids don't look right (to me anyway).

Its called "bubba" after one of my baby magpies. I came up with this variation of the VT in 2001 with the idea of having two long tails on it and a second prusik attached to make a system you could lengthen or shorten. Somebody I showed over here showed some guys it at ITCC the same year or Maybe 2002 I can't remember.Others have laid claim and may well of come up with it by themselfs as I did,but as far as I am concerned I came up with it first.
Call it what you want but to me and guys I showed it to back then it will always be the "Bubba"

Interested to see what Sterling has developed for the arb market. Ed Carpenter has been working with them on a bunch of new stitched stuff.

Everyone going to TCIA will get to see it.

Sooo....VT with what Distal finish or Knut finish? I can certainly imagine if the hitch cord dimensions were causing lack of friction issues that increasing 'grip' could drive that variation.

No criticsm intended just interested...to me the biggest benefit of the Knut was its self tending ability but the HC sort of makes that unnecessary (IMO anyway)..now I'll get back to slopping around with the lazy french prussik.

The one pictured is with a knut finish. I tried something similar to this earlier this summer except I made an extra braid and used the knut finish and had shorter tails. I found it actually changed the friction very minimally but what it did was keep my top coils from binding up so much due to the extra friction of the half hitch at the base. It also was good for self tending at height and always set perfectly, the orientation of the braids was never changed during movement of the hitch even when tied loosely. I never used it in place of my hitch climber pulley all I was looking for was a hitch that would take up slack when I was up in the canopy. This one collapsed well and line dropped right through it, it tended almost as good as my spiderjack once above 40 feet.

it is a VT (3 full wraps up 2 braids down)
THE only variation is there is a "half " square knot, or the knot you tie when you get your shoes laced up and dress them before tying bowsw

which is one hell of a way to make the VT a safer hitch for someone just movin up from a distel or even a blakes
i like it
or better yet it would be perfect when u r breaking in a new i2i or rope

THAT is what hitch it is

I used the Knut a lot, 4-5 years ago?
Anyone still using it with good results?
I use a 4-3 VT now. Ocean polyester 8mm on 11mm velocity or 11,7mm tachyon. It works best on the tachyon. Sometimes it doesn't bite too well on the velocity.

Anyone using a knut on velocity??
