What do you do about lunch?

Where you are creating written policy then it must adhere to employment/labor law in your area. If it at all contravenes that then it is superseded by the law and all your efforts are wasted. Certainly being flexible and having an unwritten consistent policy is important but be careful of what you do put in writing.

I watched a documentary on a French crew building an insainly huge bridge in France and they had champange with their lunch. The job got done on schedule with style.

Chris, wouldn't a daily quota be contingent on sales? Or is it solely based on x amount of billable man hours + materials? Do different crews have different quotas to make? I think quotas are great motivators, but so many factors can influence a daily quota (unpredictables, i.e. weather, break downs, call ins, accidents) what happens when the quotas aren't met? Just curious.

Nobody gets rich in this business, why blow a perfectly nice day trying?

Words to live by!

We usually eat lunch when we get hungry, and take as long as we want. (which usually is in the truck or 15 minutes on site). I pay through lunch and break times.

My old job we ate lunch at 9:00 sharp every morning. More like a breakfast I guess, but when it's 110 degrees out, you don't feel much like eating. We we're docked 1/2 hour for lunch per day.
