What’s your favourite lanyard set up

Do you carry a longer one too? 8' doesn't count.

I simply listed the two that I use the most and really like. But yes, I've almost always got the short one and another that is longer... 8' to about 32' in current inventory.

...a trango cinch with 25’ of beeline...

That is exactly what I had my second Trango Cinch on for a long time, but when I finally wore out the beeline I decided to try it out on about 30 feet of 10.5mm HTP and really like that one, too.

By the end of the week, all "favorite" items will change, again... I really hate the "favorite" whatever threads, because I have a hard time defining what qualifies as my favorite at any given moment. It really depends on what you're doing on that day. There's probably some pills I could take for this problem.

I haven't found a need to swap lanyards in different trees, personally, but that does mean that sometimes I carry hardware that doesn't get used.

I climb every day with 23' of Marlow Vega (which is one hell of a lanyard line, FYI) on an Edelrid Triton snap, adjusted with a Zillon, and held aloft with a lanyard manager clip and a thimble prussic. On the other end, which is wound up on a 3-coil scuba clip, I have my DMM Captain, adjusted with a Petzl Grigri2. The hook is mounted on a Metolius Dogbone, which is attached to the rope with a steel Screwlink. If I need a longer traverse, I detach that whole assembly, tie the Screwlink onto the tail of my climb line, and jump the midline attachable Grigri over as well.

Seems like a lot, but it's well organized and there's not a whole lot else I'm carrying most days, so it takes care of just about everything at once.

Those 3 hole scuba clips are awesome! I've got a fall arrest rated harness I sometimes wear in a bucket and bring able to neatly drop the whole lanyard with a couple motions and keep it all in is neat coil is fantastic

That's the one! I actually found out about them first here on the Buzz. Been a lifesaver.

The big difference between the scuba clip and the lanyard manager clip is that, in most instances, the scuba clip won't let the rope slide through it easily, which is why I keep the lanyard manager right behind my adjuster in the system, and the scube clip holds the half of the lanyard that's much less often used. Still, it's easy to clip them on and off, and I can release all three loops with minimal effort and only my left hand, and then it's just a quick clipping of the Grigri onto my 2nd bridge and the hook's ready to go.

Recently traded with a fella here for a red Trango Cinch, excited to try it out :)

Usually around 16’ of 11mm Velocity with a DMM swivel biner, and a distel tied with 8mm Beeline and micropulley.
For pitchy conifers I like a rope grab, Gibbs or Buckingham. Pine lanyard is XTC Fire but I think I’ll go back to 3 strand Dacron whenever I get around to buying some.

I like 15 foot 10mm ocean poly with 6mm ocean Vectran hitch, tended with a brass boat snap. Simple small light

I'd like to try something like this Sean, but i cannot find that 6mm vectran anywhere. I thought it was disco'd.

I've spent alot of time mucking about trying to find my personal "Holy Grail".. I'm really partial to my CE but it has a ton of cover slack sewn into it which is extremely disappointing considering what they charge for it... It's like it was never milked before hand. It's so bad it almost makes the tail useless for use elsewhere

Regardless, i like the CE for the sole reason it terminates clean/compact & is able to self advance when used as a mini climb system connected to the pinto becket. If i could have my Positioner or my Zillon do the same, those two would be "my go to". Especially the Zillon that thing really is just awesome. . However, why none of these manufactures produce anything with a becket or second attachment point is beyond me. I really feel id be a good candidate for the little BOLA from Surveyor as it is designed with all of this in mind. Self advancing, second attachment point, super compact, etc.

Here's how I get around a becket on the positioner, this pic was just an example when actually in use I prefer to clip the snap into the spine side so that when its slack it won't catch on the carabiner gate. View attachment 61724

Right right.. i use it like that too.. it's just not the same to me though.. If i want to pull that tail in order to advance it causes the entire positioner to come sliding down the spine (or over the barrel) & as long as the cordage is taught/loaded or straight/stiffened like a metal rod, the positioner isnt going to grab..

Just a note, to combat that issue, I've been experimenting with hooking the Positioner's biner to the eye of the snap. That way it can't slide down the spine or barrel. Obviously keepers could help with this, but I'm constantly mucking about with stuff so they kinda get irritating when taking things on & off.

Don't get me wrong, i like the tool, just wish it had a legit becket... Shit, i wish everything had two holes.. The more the merrier..
& Not for nothing but, a Becket may not have even been functional on this device given its design & how it needs the correct angle/weighting to lock..idk just thinking out loud.

Right now I have a wire core. I also have a rope lanyard with hitch climber.

Lately what I’ve done especially on removal is utilize them both plus my climbing line for three tie in points when chunking spars. I saw a video online by Lawrence Schultz in regards to this where he was using three tie ins for spar work.

So you use your two lanyards normally and cinch your climb line? Or do you cinch the rope lanyard too?

I actually started trying this out, using 3 tie in points on the last removal I did.

Basically once there’s no tie in for the climb line I have my two lanyards around the trunk, sometimes I will wrap one around twice so it doesn’t move around, and then cinch the climbing line. Essentially it allows you to always be tied in twice usually.

Here’s the video, granted he’s talking about big wood but it could be applied to any wood.

I don't get it. Even on big wood when you wanna move your climbline down after the facecut and rigging is set, you're still bucked in while you move the tie in down. Seems like one more thing to have to mess with to me.
