Western Tree Work

It's funny how that works? Aliens packed it on the horse and brought it back to camp.! Seriously. We were in the middle of quartering the carcass so the head seemed to be the best pic.

Yeah, it's pretty nice up in and around Jackson's hole. I could drop a few names of prominent citizens there...

I'm sure. Like Cheney and Harrison Ford? Seems like most of the tree work there is PHC and IPM no? I would love to pack up my business and go there but I don't think there is much work without the chemicals.

Arborcare1- I used to work for the USFS, we trained in Alpine, WY just down the road. I loved WY. Used to do a little horselogging too. Your pics remind me of good times- thanks

No, not them. Just their previous mayor (my sister) and several long-time prominent businessmen. I've been there a few times, some of them for extended periods. Every time (driving) I could just imagine how the folks getting there by wagon/horseback back in the day would be thinking "heck with the west coast! If I have to spend any more time in the desolation I just spent too much time in I think I'll die. This valley is good enough for me; I sure don't want to turn back and go through all that again!"

Yeah, I find myself wondering how they made it across all those ranges to get to the west coast. I work for the Spotted Horse Ranch down there past Hoback Junction. You've probably heard of it and KYlimbwalker probably drove past it a bunch of times. Pinedale is pretty close.

Me too, being as my gramma's last name was Bridger, my bro's first name, and Jim was my cousin a few times removed. No wonder I have a penchant for telling tall tales (Jim was the man there!!) and have such a love of the mountains...

Great story and pics, arborcare! Thanks!

Back in '82, I spent nearly 2 weeks in Wyoming, climbing big granite peaks in the Wind River Range's awesome Cirque of the Towers, which have the best granite climbing in the lower 48, outside of Yosemite. We had to leave our climb of the Grand Teton till the end of the trip, as there had been 18 inches of snow as low down as 9000 feet when we arrived there. We'd spent the night at the climber's ranch, met legend Yvon Chounaird, then went and climbed the 2 pitch Baxter's Pinnacle, where I shot pics of a moose. I'm sure it was a good thing to climb the Grand last, as the 10 days at above 10,000 feet had allowed us to acclimatize.

I stayed at Hoback Junction when I was a seasonal FS employee, in '81. There was a camp right near the State Elk Refuge (not the federal one in the Hole). We worked in the Gros Ventres, thinning lodgepole stands, mainly. Having that view of the Tetons is as good a work environment as you could ask for!

All you guys with these connections out there..........get me a job. I've been reeady to move for a few years now. The only problem is that most of the work is seasonal. I was hoping to fall into the Ranch Foreman job at the Spotted Horse but so far my patience hasn't paid off!

I lived there for three years. The first winter there it snowed three hundred twenty inches (Yes thats right), and total for the year was six something. Best powder skiing I have ever done!! I have skied just about every major resort in the west and not many compare.
As far as tree care, I think there are a couple small companies. Probably alot of lot clearing.
