Can I cut the sewn ends of a spliced eye through the middle and take it out or do you need to completely cut the end of the rope where the eye is?Cut em down and use a poachers knot on one end to get the length you want. Not as streamlined as sewn eyes but totally usable
Don't cut the splices at all. You would cut the cord some length down from one of the spliced eyes such that when you tie a poachers knot in the cut end, your new "eye'n'eye" is the appropriate length to tie the friction hitch you want. One eye of your hitch cord will be spliced, the other will be tied. Can I cut the sewn ends of a spliced eye through the middle and take it out or do you need to completely cut the end of the rope where the eye is?
