wesco boots

I love them too.

I was wearing out Redwings and other logger type boots in like 6 months.

The wescos last me almost two years.

they are really worn out when I'm done, so I've never sent a pair back to get rebuilt.

i haven't done the custom order thing.

I can't believe the prices you guys are quoting.

I was always buying them from far-west specialties (i think that's the name anyway) for around $289. Then the last pair, about 2 yrs ago now, was like $320.

I plan on ordering a new pair this week or the next.

Guys I have never worn wescos. When I trim I wear Asolo Fugitive gtx boots. I dont do most of the removal climbing, so I just have a pair of Justin work boots with a good heel for holding my spurs. I was just always under the impression that guys only wore that type of boot for use in conjunction with spikes??? If I am wrong I would like to be enlightened and would like to know what makes wescos so awesome???

I wear my wesco highliners even when I'm not removing trees just because I've grown so used to them. They do alot of cambial damage in some trees with tight crotches, they're heavy, but I wear them anyway and try to be careful about being too heavy footed, perhaps a pair of pull over stretchy foam booties would help.

I'll call them Cambies!

I wear 20 inch tall wescos with carbon fiber knee braces and my pants tucked into them, this allows me to put my foot, shin or knee into the tightest of crotches comfortably with close to zero pain ot discomfort. Almost like having armored exoskeletal legs in the tree, good chainsaw protection too.

For me it's no wescos, no climbing, except in emergencies.

I feel naked in the tree without my boots and braces on.

I wear them because they are great, tough, comfortable boots. I can go from the bucket, to climbing, to crane removals, to running a piece of equipment and be comfortable doing all of those tasks in my Wescos. I own 3 pair, and will be buying more as the need arises. best boots/shoes I have ever owned!

i got my wesco boots on 12/06/08 and here's what they look like on 03/10/09. i wear my boots allday everyday and they barely show any wear when their clean. i'm glad i got the thinner #430 sole on the first pair as i broke'em in during the muddy season but if i had it to do again i would go with the #100 vibram sole all the way. the thin sole never has felt right to me. i have been in redwings for 20 years and i just feel more in my zone with a thick sole boot. either way,a top notch product will always command a top notch price. there more than worth the investment

and if ur feet stink in wesco boots after a couple bee's oil treatments, u need to email thedoctorstv.com. and have that funk looked after.

don't forget Obenaufs for all your oil tanned leathers. no sno seal or minkwax. they contain petroleum and kill leather. oil tanned leather is like a fine cigar.....needs to be kept moist, and natural.

Obtained an MSDS sheet from them, and spoke to several boot builders.....Wesco, Whites, Dave Page, etc etc. They cut it with Kerosene.

Dave Page refuses to work on ANY boot thats been treated with Snoseal it degrades the leather that bad!

Bostonbull, always coming at you with hardcore facts. That is so awesome Jim. You have got to be one of the only guys I know who obtained the MSDS sheet for SNO-SEAL. Freakin sweet.

PS- I know that it is very important to know what is in a treater that you are putting on a pair of those Wescos because of the leather and the cost of the boot, I was just jackin with you Jim.

that's what I am here for, keepeveryone enterained! I am a geek and proudly admit it.

when Wesco first told me about this I didn't believe it. they told me to get the MSDS and see for myself.

Wesco supposedly has a mink oil that has no petroleum products in it......? ill stick with Obenaufs.

Come to think of it, there is one little thing about wesco highliners that annoys me, atleast initially anyway.

What gives with the frilly tongue at the toe?

I'm a climber, not some sunday golfer!

First thing I do is cut those gay tassles off the lower tongue so they're streamlined and smooth and not catching sawdust and other stuff I don't want on my boots.

Is there some utilitarian purpose to those dang tassles other than collecting unwanted stuff that I'm unaware of?

Soak that piece of leather in oil. the oil will seap out and keeps the toe section well oiled during rain and mud season for loggers.

Other than that its kinda fruity to have on there. Wesco doesnt even ship the boots with it in place anymore. You have to put it on yourself.

Thanks for the info, BB. So where do you get obenaufs?

BTW, that's bummer news re sno seal...I hadn't noticed leather degradation but it does do a good job of weather proofing.

I heard the frilly tongue thing has something to do with protecting the shoe/laces from brush, for loggers.

the very gay looking tassle things protect the tongue from the strings. buy new tassle things or a new tongue which means rebuild the boot? they don't look near as bad with some mileage and chicks dig gay-arse looking tassle things.

wesco boots are great and your buying them from a good old mom and pops and son,s and now grand sons.. i have been pruning there trees for qwite some time and i know they appreciate me and my crew wearing there boots
