wesco boots

Thanks, Taitree. For the experience I'm damn lucky to have not died at an early age in this profession. Oh there were many times I should have. Inexperienced and old school ways that they were.

Yes lucky to live through the learning curve and pass on some of the experience. And Wesco boots were a very big part of it.

I feel that!! I didn't cut my teeth on those big sticks out west by any stretch , but I spent quite a few days hanging off the side of some big old oak with nothin but a couple of points between myself and the ground among many other not so smart things. I am with you on the lucky part. I am glad we made it!!!!!

We'll see how my job interview goes. If I land with the company then I'll have some spending cash as they provide everything... I do mean everything! WOOHOO! well, maybe not custom boots.....

is the 16" boot worth the money and the weight? i'm waiting for the "custom fit form" from wesco and i'm trying to cover all my bases this time.

So, I played on the wesco website custom build and came up with a $694.00. I'm gonna need some serious work to pay for those babies!

That would equal about a half weeks pay for a climber today.

Well depending on where you work. Geographic regions and all, it certainly could be more or less what you earn.

Customer testimonial for the most part. Though what little climbing I do today all that's needed is a hiking boot with a good arch.

Early in my career I did a lot of wreck jobs working out of the safety line and spurs alone, chunking down spars, grueling work, and the wesco's prove to hold up and keep my legs from paining too badly.

I have 2 10" pairs and 1 16". havent worn the 16's since 2004.

Kevlar laces wear out just as fast as regular. Kev;ar wont melt/burn so they are good for smoke jumpers.....

Rebuilds are 199. I havent rebuilt any yet.

i have a pair of 16 inch and i love them . i dont think i can ever buy a diffrent pair of boots. i bought a pair a killed them in 4 months. and thay rebuilt them for free. there alot of money but its worth it.

The best boot lace I have found is some 3mm spectra throw line. I have worn out a pair of wescos, took the laces out and had them rebuilt. Put the laces back in and wore them out again. Still got the laces.

thats what i'm afraid is gonna happen to me. once i break a pair of boots in they dont even get sunday's off. only time will tell now

I'm curious about Wesco's right now. I read this thread and I know they are a great boot. I also played around with the custom order option and came out around $600, which included the custom fit form kit. First question, did those of you who got fit at an Expo feel it was better than doing the kit they can send out. And what options would you recommend. I thought the double steel shank would help out when I get into spurs and removals more.

I have yet to do a custom fit on mine, because I don't trust myself. I have 3 pairs,10"-16", so I will wait until they wear out and then get measured at an expo. If you trust yourself or someone else, it is pretty straight forward.

Heres how I built my boots:

-10" Highliner
-Black Leather (I have a pair of Firestormers with the Black Fire leather. It is awful for durability! it is synthetically dyed, not oil tanned like the Black and others.)
-Lace to Toe
-Cambrelle with Kevlar lining. (I have sweaty feet in summer and this is the most breathable, and best wicking material according to Wesco)
-100R Soles
-Brass hooks and Eyes
-White Stitching all around. (My Firestormers had yellow and I wasn't a fan of that. The white compliments the black nicely, IMO)
-Tan Nylon laces
-Double steel shanks (these were standard last time I bought a pair, now they are $15 extra)
-Do the Custom fit! One time fee, and trust me you will order another pair to have once you wear your first pair.

Good luck and keep us posted!!!

Thanks Jim!! I'm going to do a bit more research and ask our shoe friend about a few details. Now that I think about it, he could do the custom fit kit for me, as he's a big boot expert. He may also be able to get me a discount, so I'll see about that.

Now I just have to save up for a pair of these!
