Weekend accomplishments-February 1

on Friday I attended the Exec. Committee meeting for TxISA in Austin.

After the meeting I stayed in the area to be a tourist. Seeing how far down Lake Travis is because of the drought was eye-opening! While sitting on the deck at The Oasis I could see the wave patterns that were bouncing around from shore to some sholes that were above water now. Very pretty!

Instead of driving home via I35 I took state highways to the west. Finally I get to see some texture and topography! There were some nice bluffs and overlooks along the way home.

Jim called me just before half time so that I could watch the best part of the Super Bowl, Broooce, The Big Man, Steve van Zandt and the rest of the E Street Band!!! Then...back to normal programming...what was going on before and after the concert?

I'll Kick off this February thread. I have many home projects I'm trying to take care of before thing crank up again. Things have gotten neglected here over past 3 years. Not sure if some of you remember my carport I posted pictures of building 2 yrs ago, well now's the time to finish the inside of it. I installed 11 recessed lights and six outlets. Lights are on a motion switch, so it's nice pulling in to the carport at night and instantly light up. So here was day one of putting up the siding, it's a type of plywood alredy primed for paint. Didn't get done as much as I would like. Found out I needed to shim the walls here and there to make sure everything was straight.

Day 3 the ceiling, same thing had to shim, was out like crazy because of the span of the collar ties and the wood is naturally not straight the day after its cut, bowing causing high and low spots.

Another, I still have to trim out the six windows, install moulding on the joint lines between the walls and ceiling seams. Also more moulding on the top and bottom of the base moulding. Probably a whole another week, then paint when it warms up. I should have no problem keeping this thread going. I still have to build an oak aquarium stand for the office, 120 gal tank. Build the countertop of oak for the cabinets I built a while back for the office. To many to list and describe but will post as I go through them. Give you guys something else to see besides tree work.

Boy I feel like an under-achiever, besides trying to kick a cold, I spliced (very first time) a couple of 3/8" dyneema whoopie slings.

Tom, I love to take alternative routes, but my wife is always bustin' my chops. Cameron that carport looks great!

I have been sick for just shy of 10 days, and my wife told me to do somethin' constructive.

If you get bored some weekend come on up, we'll knock down some trees mill 'em and build a pole shed! Now THAT tree related!

P.S all in good fun I hope your feeling better come this weekend. What's with all you tree guys being sick. My climber Steve just got over MRSA, talked to Roachy tonight says he has pneumonia.

Get well soon guys.

Thanks EP, I was thinking about starting a post called Tree Buzz Cribs. I would like to see where and how other buzzers live and how the tree profession has provided for them. Wasn't to sure if anyone else was interested?

Hey,

Don't I get some credit for that too?

Right as usual Jim, you have impeccable timing! Your words of encouragement are an asset.

BUT I am NOT spicing pink whoppies for you!

But since your closer than Cameron you can come do the ariel work on the pole shed! We'll work something out on the splicing!

The sideroad trip home from Austin only added 20 minutes to a 2.5 hour drive. It was sure worth it! I've traveled Interstate 35 from Duluth to San Antonio many times. Getting off to the side is sure nice!

Cameron...nice looking carport. How come you have a carport and not a garage with a door. After all of that finishing it seems like the finishing touch.

Get some advertising on that thing, cruise up and down the river to service your clients. It could be a total write off as taxes goes.

You might be living alone though.

Tom the origional plans were for an open design. Just 6x6 posts, 4 on each side. Several things, we thought it would complete the house better to finish it on the sides. Cut down on all the leaves that use to collect in that area.
