Wedge Driving Axe

Anyone have any good recommendations on a good mid-size (say 30inch) wedge driving axe? Not too heavy to lug around but solid enough to drive those puppies in? Thanks

Axes are for splitting kindling, mallets are for driving wedges.

Remember that little blue mallet on the Turkish filbert?

Here is the Estwing Drill Hammer: good for everything but lifting really heavy pieces (which it couldn't do on the filbert). The Hardhead (should have 2 or more for stacking), the Double Taper 7D, and some little piece. Though I don't have one, if I worked out in the woods I'd get a Council Tool Dayton axe like this with a short shaft.

Didn't we already go over this one before: axes are for splitting kindling, mallets are for driving wedges. Remember that little blue mallet on the Turkish filbert?

I remember the tree perfectly, but I'm missing out on the little blue mallet. However, where did you get those stackable wedges with that flare at the end...those were nice.

Madsens. U need a 3.5# Michigan bit ax. I run their 12" Blue Ox wedges but they do sell Black Bear rifled wedges. I ran the BB wedges out west on a fire but didnt care for them. I also cut the handle down to 21" and use an aluminum scabbard on my belt to carry it around. Those mallets may do good for drivin a wedge but good luck cutting yourself out of a pinch with one

I use a Council 5lb. Dayton Axe with a 28" handle. Weight and swing work for me. You can order it online from Bailey's.
