Wedding rings

Hi everyone,
I have been learning a lot from reading this forum and now I finally have a question that I need some input on. I am getting married soon and I am a bit worried if I wore my ring at work it would have the possibility of A: aiding in the crushing of my finger if something hit it, or B: ripping my finger off if something caught it. I don't wear gloves all that much when I climb. Thanks

I have this EXACT problem with my wife. She INSISTS that I keep my wedding ring on no matter what. I even offered to get a wedding ring tattoo in place of the gold band, but no dice.

If your spouse will let you go with out the ring take her up on that.

Good question. And welcome to the Buzz!

I personally want to keep my ring on. I wear gloves all of the time. I don't think my choice is the safest choice. It is a risk I'm taking. I've seen horrible picture of guys getting their finger pealed off from a ring. --Not good.

If you don't like to wear gloves much then, I'd take the ring off.

I know there was a thread on this same topic a while ago, some interesting pics in it as well. Only way I am getting my ring off is if I cut it, and the wife isn't buying that it can get snagged!

I always wear my wedding ring, lose of finger is probably the only excuse my wife would accept for losing it,My gold wedding ring started to wear away went from 12 grams of gold to about 10 grams in the space of 3 years,So my wife went out and bought two new ones made of aircraft grade titanium cost as much as the gold ones nearly, but I can't wear it out, could probably use it as a connecter its so strong.(Just keep my gold one at home now)

I know some guys who wear them on a chain around there neck. I guess that is a safer way, as that small chain would just break it caught on something. I don't think you need to worry about be hung.

I wear my wedding ring all the time during treework but I use gloves all the time.
When I'm working without gloves I always take it off my finger and put it in my wallet (making sure it's on my finger again when I get out of the van at home

).

Gloves on ring on, gloves off ring off.

It's not only treework that is unsafe with wedding rings on.
I've heard of a finger dangling on a hook in the wall when a volleyball instructor jumped to show the newbies where the net should be during man's volleyball.

Just don't get married.. Lol. Sorry, that isn't funny.

My husband used to take his off and put it on a biner or clip when climbing or chipping, and I was cool with it. Just remember to wear it when NOT working if you want your spouse to be happy. Explain that you love your spouse, and the ring means a lot, but with the job it isn't safe to wear.

This is coming from a female? I thought only men made these jokes

I put mine on my key ring when I am working. It doesnt bother my wife when I forget to put it back on because she likes me having all of my digits. Besides that we have allot of trust in each other. We got married. We love being married. We love each other. What more is there.
I did crush my ring once putting up the feed tray on a chipper (stupid mistake). I think it kept my fingers from getting crushed. It took a pair of pliers to reshape it on my finger so I could get it off.

I don't wear my wedding ring around my other mistress. I take it off and leave it in the truck because I hate gloves. My wedding ring is gold and its also my grandpa's from 1952 still has the engraving for their marriage so I'm worried about abusing it more than losing it. Mainly getting it caught and/or my finger ripped off.

I have a poor sense of humor. I am working on it.

As for the tattoo idea, remember, it's PERMANENT.

When I wore a ring I just wore gloves over it, it didn't seem to be a problem at all, except the callous that developed underneath, but that's no big deal.

I think it's called "de-gloving" when the skin is peeled off from snagging a ring.
I used to take mine off during work and before climbing....I'm now on my third ring after losing two. Wife says this is my last one, so now I just wear it during work.

Went to toss a 50 pound Tsuga branch after cutting it, small spur caught my wedding band which caused the band to lodge into my finger laying it open.

The angle was such that it cantelevered and stayed put.

Almost yanked me out of the bucket.

From that day on I started wearing my ring around my neck. Unfortunately the chain it was on has broken twice and I have lost my ring twice.

Next step is a tattoo to replace the ring.

Our company rule, no jewelry on the hands, face, or arms and neck chains only if they will readily break away.

Reading these posts makes me apreciative of my wife who isnt bothered by the fact I leave the house for work without it. I never wore jewelry in my life until I got married and truth be told I hate the feeling of wearing a ring and I only ever worked with it for a few hours until I realised it was unbearable. I like my hands to be free of foreign objects when I'm working, except for the Atlas gloves I guess.

Yup, it is called de-gloving. My wife is a medical assistant and she has treated two construction workers who had this happened to them. She says its very discusting and painful.

She won't let me wear my ring while I'm doing tree work and we have been married for over 21 years.
