Weaver rope bag

To secure the end of the rope.

I'm not claiming it's a good idea or a bad idea, that's just what it is there for. Most likely copied from the small bags for holding throwline.

Most of the dozen or so rope bags I have have some kind of internal attachment for the "bitter end" of the rope. This has two purposes:
1. it prevents the rope from knotting up inside the bag
2. if the bag is carried to height and dropped to deploy the rope, the tie-in prevents the bag from disappearing

Yup, useful for other disciplines or other types of line, but worthless to the tree climber bagging his lifeline.

I drop the bag when traversing the strand at times but it just drops to the ground where I land.
I could see in a rescue where you might be on the side of a cliff where that would be useful.
