Want to start splicing, what do I need?

Been here a while
What are the best books, must have tools, and materials that you pro splicers out there recommend for splicing climbing lines like Velocity, Tachyon, Poison Ivy, as well as double braid lines like Stable Braid.

I'm sure once I order the stuff I'll be asking for help on the techniques and critique as well.

Thanks for suggestions.

Ryan, the Brion Toss video is really helpful. Print out the splicing instructions from a manufacturer's Web site (e.g., Samson for Velocity). Follow the instructions for double braid and watch that section of the video at the same time. After that exercise, you'll have a MUCH better understanding of what you need for splicing.

Also, there is quite a lot info on this and other forums if you Search for it.

That Brion toss video is excellent. And for us, all we use are splicing wands.

The splicing fids come in handy for measurements, but that is pretty much all we use them for anymore. Splicing wands might take a little more time to learn, but I personally couldn't imagine using anything else.

Just make sure you have a good vise to clamp the splicing wand to, or else you need four hands to work them.

Is the toss splicing wand worth the money?

how much splicing do you do? Truth is- a lot of guys buy the stuff, do two splices and figure out it's too hard. If that's you, don't get the wand.

If you're the type of guy to stick with it- you'll grow to love the wand and you'll never regret or think about the price again.

I love mine. I use it almost daily!
