Want to buy 20in used chipper-- any suggestions?

Re: Want to buy 20in used chipper-- any suggestion

Its a Morbark 2400xl hurricane not sure on all the specs (hp and others), its only supposed to take an 18" tree I found out the other day, I seen bigger go through it. But I know it was one of the first ones out, the salesman tried to get us to wait a year for the feild tests were done but the boss didn't want to. So we made the modifications and its doing pretty good.

The power is great I actually seen a winch cable go through it and it didn't stop!. Made a hell of a racket but in just spit this massive ball of cable out the shoot and kept on going.

Jen,

Tough call. Price is good if it has a waranty. Price may still be good if you feel comfortable with the machine's condition.

Morbark is a good name. Well built and all. The 200 hp engine (cummins?) is about equal in performance and torque as the 170 (175) John Deere. Which can you get better service for? How much do each weigh? If one needs a class A license sand one doesn't, maybe that's a decision maker? The "available now" shouldn't really be the deciding factor. It's already March.

I say demo both and then you'll know. And try it with trees that have brush on them too. I found that the Vermeer did very well for pulling in brush without having to cut it as much.

Funny you should say that Mark, all teh feedback I've had says the cummins engine has far more torque than the JD. (although that was 250hp engines)

We have ran both Vermeer and Mobark. The Vermeer 1800 is much easier to feed by hand. We now are running 9 Vermeer machines, desicions were based on performance and service.
