Similar denial is there with dog owners too. I used to work on Mac computers and made house calls here in this rural county. For dogs, it was just like being a postman. I don't know how many countless times I heard, 'Oh, I don't know what got into him; he has NEVER bitten anyone. He is SO sweet.'. Worst I was ever attacked was a sodding chihuahua, the piranha of the dog World. Went around my ankle like a can opener with its little razor sharp teeth; I needed seven stitches.
I want to laugh but then I can't.
It reminds me of when the mother of a mass shooter or bomber or whatever is interviewed by a TV news reporter. The reporter already knows what she's going to say, it happens every time. The reporter is milking it for every drop of viewer upset/outrage that it will provoke: "My son is a such a gentle young man, he couldn't have done it!".
No different than with pets misbehaving, no matter how severe the incident. I friend's dog nipped me in the face and drew blood. Instead of apologizing he blamed me for my "body language" which apparently provoked the dog to attack. I wanted to laugh at the blame redirect but didn't.
Speaking of which, anyone out there have a new redirect technique to show off? If so and it needs a name just call it the "Blame Redirect", you're welcome.
