Next Monday I'll be in Ft. Lauderdale to teach another TCIA EHAP class. I'm going down early and taking a couple days after to site see.
I WON"T be going to Disney or any theme parks. Can anyone give me some can't-miss places to see in southern Florida? Any spectacular tree places to visit?
I'm bringing my climbing gear and camping gear so that I'm ready for anything. Anyone interested in getting together? If so, drop me a line off-forum:
I spent the weekend on the Keys. Walked around Key West and then camped a night on Bahia Honda. The campsite I chose was a good day time site but not a night time site. It was shady but the wind didn're move and the tent was really stuffy. I kept waking up from nightmares of being below decks on a Nelson-era fighting sail ship. That must come from reading the Patrick O'Brian series again. Swimming in the ocean was nice. The training went well. The next day I got a cheap motel a block from the beach in Ft. Lauderdale. Walking on the beach at night was nice until it started to rain. The rain was just cool enough to give me a real chill before I got back to the motel. At the workshop I asked for ideas of tree places to see. Three different people told me about Fairchild Gardens south of Miami. What a beautiful place. Not touristy at all. There are a couple of large Baobab trees that reminded me of The Little Prince
It was nice to see all of the green vegetation. But it is really nice to be out of the jungle humidity too.
