Veterans Mistake, WTF

Glad your ok Riggs,

I've also done the 'act like nothing happened thing' after a mishap in the tree.

pride can be a dangerous thing

Boy that really sucks, but I’m glad that you’re OK Riggs and that you’ll heal up fine. Like others have echoed here, it takes character to post about our mishaps so that others can learn from our mistakes and hopefully stay safer. Thanks for taking the time to share your accident with us.

It’s always especially hard to read about a fellow climbing brother getting hurt too, because you can relate to them so much more than to a homeowner getting hurt working on a tree. Chances are, they had no business being in the tree in the first place.

Sorry that I didn’t get to see you at the Expo Riggs, but I did get to see some of your beautiful state of PA while driving down from N.H. Spent one night in Wilkes-Barre PA when we got too tired driving. Very nice place.

Take some time to heal up too, if you can. Those head injuries can be real nasty. Even just a slight concussion can be bad, I know, I’ve head a couple. One from tree work (which I’ll write about soon) and one when I was a kid and I ran head first into one of my dad’s construction trailers. Dumb kid!

Thanks Sohner , I have alot of respect for you , I'm fine I just made a mistake I shouldn't have. The crime would've been if I didn't share it , all for one one for all.

Glad your OK bro , we all make mistakes and we learn from them... Happy Holidays from SO-CAL

Riggs,
Glad you made it!

You didn't actually use the word complacency, but it sounds like that was a factor. You knew you were in a bad position relative to the work, yet you let it go, cause you figured you'd be alright and could save a few seconds from repositioning.

Its hard not to get a bit complacent doing this work day after day, year after year, everything going smoothly. I think these little mishaps are God's way of reminding us to keep our guard up every move we make. Could end up saving your life, next time you think I shouldn't cut from this position, you're gonna move! And thanks to this thread SO WILL I !!!

No trip to the emergency room, no need to put your nose back where it came from, no blood all over the job.. You missed a couple days of work and spent some time with your family. That's a small price to pay for such a valuable lesson.. I call that Divine Order!

I also would second the thought that a humboldt with a high backcut, might have kept the piece from coming back, though maybe not if it rolled, as you mentioned.
