vertical speed line discussion

Just yesterday I used a running bowline at the top of the spar, had my ground guy clove hitch and wrap end of the line on a log already on the ground, left a bit of slack in the line and bombed it. It was a 100' black locust. All of our rigging lines are 150', so had to improvise. Didn't want to smash my porty. Log worked great. Ground guy took up slack as I came down.

Mine is stored in my hairy computer...the one between my ears.

What are you having a hard time visualizing?

some are "hairier" than others... ;)

I have used big downed front leaning stems as anchor points to pull their back leaning co-dom's to the lay.. That's nothing but fun...

LOL, Tom D... must be tough being a Pioneer in our industry eh? I'm so lucky to learn from all y'all... sure do appreciate it. Although you old fellas did get to cut down all the BIG TREES!!!

I picked up a beautiful, massive, blown out tractor tire from an old guy I worked for. Boy has it come in handy a couple times!

Not tough at all. working in isolation and not having connections with peers and any printed learning materials sure did limit how much could be learned.

Getting the original Arbor Age magazine, attending 'Arbor Expo' for the first time in '86, sitting on the edge of my seat learning about speedlining and using the Hobbs to LIFT pieces, meeting Bob Webber...do I need to go on? Since then it's been easy. Once I started to meet other arbos work got easier and more fun!

Stop this 'old' talk...I just got home from spending a few hours dancing my legs off at a blues club...on a school night too!

Wow

So that's a vertical speed line, on to a mattress, on a tractor tire, on the ground.

So curious,

Are you going for leave no trace?
Did you carry on like so till the ground?

Why tie into the other tree?
When twice on the tree being removed.

How big was that chunk?
Did you have to cut it smaller once on ground?

Finally, was that buck island and whiteface in the view?

Humbly, I implore the logic? I'll probably learn something.

Peace

No trace...no you could tell we were there...sawdust and 50' of tree was missing.

till the ground....no to most visitors it is still a tall tree, as most folks never look up.

How big? last piece 10'er c.18"diam

Yes we had to make smaller to wheel out.

I tied into the other tree because I never trust a lightning struck tree to hold me up. The first few pieces I clipped my lanyard into a plastic beaner (breakaway).

Yes that is Buck and Iceface.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you I cruise to buzz rather randomly.
