Using the On Bight Redirect for Advancement in the Tree

Nice refinement on advancing the TIP/redirect on a basal anchor. Hooking the bight into a carabiner saves the trouble of pulling enough rope through with the bight so that gravity doesn't take all the tail out when you are moving up the TIP (if that make sense). That makes a big difference!

I had a similar situation yesterday. Fought the tail a lot. There the runner through a higher crotch with a stopper knot. This seems much more efficient. Can clip a throw bag on the bight to get more distance. Nice.

Most of the time it just serves as life support at my given position while I continue to advance on my lanyard. But you're right, if my lanyard becomes too short I can always pull this out of my bag of tricks to go longer or higher. Unlike using a 2 in 1 or double ended lanyard it gives me the option to quickly drop back down to my anchor.

I watch so many videos with great ideas but yesterday chasing 2 stuck throw bags at the top of the tree I just had an empty bag of tricks. Very frustrating. Just don't have the opportunity to do that kind of advancement a lot.

1 inch tube webbing with dimensional fabric paint to give it a little more stick and rigidity.

Well that is an interestiong thing as we are always trying to label SRT, DdRT....
Half of an On Bight Redirect is stationary and other side is moving, all done on one line whether it be a static line or dynamic line.

I'd call it stationary, the part of the bight that is moving as you go up is just a redirected tail, it's not actually part of the load bearing climbing system, if I understand it correctly.
