Part 1: Urban Watershed Forestry Manual
The Center for Watershed Protection is pleased to announce that the new
Urban Watershed Forestry Manual is available for free download on our
website www.cwp.org!! This manual is Part 1 of a three-part series on
using trees to protect and restore urban watersheds. This series is the
result of extensive research compiled over the past year and two design
workshops held in Annapolis in 2004 that were attended by over forty
foresters, stormwater engineers, landscape architects and others. The
manuals are being produced in cooperation with and with funding from the
USDA Forest Service, Northeastern Area.
Description and Status of Manual Parts
Part 1, the Urban Watershed Forestry Manual, introduces the emerging topic
of urban watershed forestry and presents new methods for systematically
measuring watershed forest cover and techniques for maintaining or
increasing this cover. Part 2 of the manual, Conserving and Planting Trees
at Development Sites, presents specific ways that developers, engineers or
landscape architects can incorporate more trees into a development site,
and will be available for download at www.cwp.org in April 2005. Part 3,
the Urban Tree Planting Guide, provides detailed guidance on urban tree
planting that is applicable at both the development site and the watershed
scale, and is currently being developed under a grant from the National
Fish and Wildlife Foundation.
Hardcopy Distribution
The USDA Forest Service, Northeastern Area office will be printing a
limited number of hard copies of the Urban Watershed Forestry Manual.
