Urban Forestry Technician (II) Salary: $45,539.79-$57, 163.22 DOQ This person trims, plants, and maintains trees and various landscaped areas. Removes dead, diseased, or hazardous trees; works from and/or operate bucket truck. Waters, mows, weeds, trims, renovates and fertilizes lawns. Trims and prunes bushes, trees and shrubs; stakes trees as necessary. Rakes leaves and clears debris and litter from parking lots, walks and other facilities. Operates moderately heavy and light equipment including chippers, stumpers, chain saws and various other equipment. Applies pesticides and chemicals for insect, disease and weed control. Performs preventive maintenance on equipment as required. Performs heavy physical labor. Ensures the adherence to safe work policies and procedures. Qualified applicants must be able to
erform skilled tree maintenance work as assigned; Perform preventive maintenance on mechanical equipment as required; Work independently in the absence of supervision; Use and operate hand tools, power tools, chain saws, and mechanical equipment including aerial lift truck, log loader, front-end loader, stump grinder and chipper in a safe and efficient manner; Perform skilled tasks in a variety of landscaping activities; Climb trees utilizing rope and saddle; Operate a variety of mechanical equipment in a safe and effective manner in routine situations; Understand and follow oral instructions; and Perform a variety of manual tasks for extended periods of time and in unfavorable weather conditions. In addition to above, qualified applicants must have at least two years of increasingly responsible experience in a variety of grounds maintenance activities including tree trimming and working from an aerial bucket truck, AND have demonstrated formal and/or documented informal education providing knowledge of urban forestry. Additional specialized training in horticulture or a related field is desirable. Additional requirements include possession of a valid Illinois Class B Commercial Driver License and possession of a certification as a Certified Arborist designation from the International Society of Arboriculture.
