I'll make a video!

I've been itching to make a video review of the Uniscender. I've been working more on SRT, in the past couple months, than I have cumulatively my whole climbing career.

There ya go - it's about time!

It figures that the weather would kick up some 80mph winds in my area. I'm swamped! I do't see a video in the making, just yet.

Reminder: I'm looking for a climber.

It's good to be swamped - right? It's good to have work with the economy like it is.

All of this unicender talk is killing me! I ordered mine nearly a month ago! I know, not Sherrill's fault and they are throwing in a free carabiner (super cool), but still I am going nuts waiting. I keep telling myself the end is near. So Tobe if you are out there what is the story on the delay? One of your associates said something about that volcanoe in Iceland screwing with shipments. I thought Rock Exotica was an American company. Maybe they get their fancy T6 aluminium from Europe. Just interested. The volcanoe ate my homework!

Can't believe i beat the competition to such a worthy cause! Heck yeah, i'll toss one to Ron, as soon as they come in that is. Latest update from Rock is late May (i think). I'd like to see a lot more of this (unbiased reviews that is) -caveot- on our site. Give me a ping Ron.

Great stuff, great stuff!

Just wondering how uni owners incorporate the the uni into there acending systems.I know you can footlock, body thrust, rads and frog walk with the uni but just would like to see some pictures. Also felt like it would be great in replacing the croll so you could go right to work without a bunch of adjusting but wouldnt your ascender need a back up considering if it came loose could it slam into to decent handle and put you in a free fall. Also Ive seen it replace the handled ascender in the frog walker but I dont really care for that.Just looking for ideas.

The bridge on my TreeFlex is adjustable so I attach the Uni directly to the bridge. When I ascend I pay out bridge slack and then when I'm working I snug it up.

I'll show you at the TxTCC, Jimmy.

If you have handy picture, Tom, it would be cool to see. I haven't seen an adjustable bridge.

To adjust my treemotion bridge, I use a Kong Duck ascender.
I keep it on the bridge between the end knot and the ring.
I've been using it for a month and it seems to work well.
Jimmy, the TXTCC will be a good chance to check these systems out.

Thanks Tom, I must have scrolled down on the screen until the "attachment" link was just off screen, not realizing that it was there.

I'd googled a Treeflex image with the stock, fixed bridge (from what saw).

The OG X-man gave me a demo with his uni. What a terrifying device. I think It needs some sort off tether to a prussic above the device while in SRT mode. For DRT I loved it. I didnt really have time to climb on it so mabey its not as scary as I think. It looked like any falling debris could hit the lever for decent and possibly send the climber into a freefall? No? I geuss I will actualy read this thread now

Neat tool. I will be ordering one as soon as they are available.

I have a rock exotica Uni - it arrived last Friday from Sherrill Tree. I was waiting to get my discussion video done before posting 'application' videos, but I'll go ahead and post them anyway. I started with DdRT, but SRTs, limbwalks, and changeovers will follow shortly:

Finally! A use for the Duck!

Microcender is not too shabby for a bridge adjuster either, nice work Tom.

Nice job Ron! What video editing software are you using.

BTW. I think Tom D's adjustable bridge is the best idea for the tether.

I use a Petzl Gri-Gri as my tether. It is a great tool as well. I can't imaging the Sherrill tether being practical under load. It looks down right difficult.

The Gri-Gri is easy to adjust underload.

In an honest review of my Uni. I really like it a lot. However, in 5 months time I already need a re-build.

I started climbing with Posion Ivy then it started to slip. I then went back to my retired XTC 1/2" rope so it would grab again. It is okay, but not fun foot locking single line to then feel it slipping when you sit into it.

I'll say this again: The grab plates, friction points, or what ever they are called need to be made of hard metal. It needs to be stainless steel or carbide steel. Not many advanced climbers would put up with re-building a Uni every 6 months or so.

Power Director. You can download a 30 day trial, full version, for free. That's what I did. I have tried numerous other editors and I like Power Director by far best.

Be aware, video editing, esp. HD videos are quite demanding on computer resources. Plus, the software is licensed to a specific computer, not a user. That means if you buy a new computer, you have to re-buy the software. But, I think that's true for most of the video editors. The software has to be registered to get updates, etc. although you don't have to register it (I think). When you register it, it reads your computer devices (not sure exactly what) and if that changes, it won't update.

So if you are even thinking about upgrading, do it before you install any video editing software. You need a fast computer with lots of memory.

I'll be posting a video today (probably won't be up until late this afternoon) that shows the 3WP on the tether slipping down the tether as I climb.
