ultra slings

Making these with Tenex TEC is super simple and easy. I'm not a pro at splicing but made several different versions and lengths sitting on the couch while watching TV last winter. By comparison, for me doing an eye splice with double braid requires a work table and plenty of focus and measuring/marking, and takes forever to do.

I have my portawrap attached to one, rigging block attached to another, and a retrievable sling using x-rigging rings, plus a few more. Easy stuff.

@dmonn. What setup is your retrievable ring? I finally spliced my first Ultra Sling last week with the big ring on it. Today I needed a way to remotely install and retrieve it. Or at least a rigging block. Didn't really want to pull a block up on a separate rope. That seems like it could almost quadruple the forces. We were rigging 800 and 900 lb pieces.

I got the biggest ultra sling single ring tree stuff sells. I've put it to the test both with heavy loads, negative rigging w/ some long runs, redirect w/ truck pulling. It's also very sandy around here, so ropes are often sandy/dirty. No signs of wear yet. I'm gonna get one w/ a block soon.
Add the block to one of your eyes on the same sling.

Here's what I use.

I think the line is 1/2 inch tenex tec, max diam for the medium ring. The combo of the Medium ring and XL ring gives me enough difference in the inside diameters to make it retrievable.

summarizing the video about how to splice the ultra-sling:

get a rope a bit over double your final length.
find the middle of rope
triple brummel around ring there
triple brummels at your desired spacing
(continue the alternating weave in successive brummels)
finish last brummel with a fid length bury
butt splice and lock stitch to finish.

just about to make a little one now, with a small omni-block
