Trim time

Todd: that's a really nice tree. Those are the one's that make a climber appear like they are a good pruner long after the work has been done. I'd consider the estimated time reasonable for that project.

As a side note, have you noticed that many branch collars on locusts protrude out from the trunk more so than with other trees? When I deadwood locusts I find the branch collars stick out and many of my cuts look like stubs.

All right, I've frickin had it. The bashing on LCTT's is really getting old. Everyone talks about us "HACKS" as if we enjoy how we make the trees look. Most of us think they look like crap. Our customers specify how much clearance to get and it's up to us to get it.
Some LCTT's do take pride in how the trees look after they are done and some don't. It's the same for the private side. Some care how it looks, others only care about how fast they got it done and how much $$$ they made.
WHICH ONE ARE YOU?

Looks like a half day job for me-by myself, including clean-up. Sometimes those 1/2 day trees stretch into all dayers like the Maple I did yesterday-I spent almost 4 hours in it plus over a half hour pulling stuff down with a polesaw and lightening some tips for clearance.-Huge pile of dead wood. Back to your locust-I consider 2 like that to be a big day when working alone. Just one means there should be another job on the schedule.

Gooze Frabba, tbc.

I hear ya about the line trimming thing. It's not easy. We get specific clearance ranges from the utility. The trees are growing in horrible places and the owners think that we are murders and hackers. I just try to do the best I can with what is in front of me and follow the procedures given. That's all you can do.
