Treetopia

@bonner1040 think the concern is you click on "what is Treetopia" and all that is there is a form to gather email. I have no idea what it is and if I want info about it. Give me a little more and if it is something I am interested I'll sign up for more info when it becomes available.

Not knocking it...just letting you know why I'm not filling in the form. TreeStuff already has my info as a customer, and I've seen no security concerns so that is not an issue to me...

Bummmer...It looks like Treetopia's ship has sunk before its left the docks... Just fine with me...The last thing we need around here are hundreds of uppity arbs, rec climbers and treehugggers running around in bright colored Euro Trash skinny jean climbing pants, Arbpro clip-and-steps, and an "I love trees" t shirt.

We won't talk about the Sena equipped Proto's helmets that seem to be glued to your cabeza's.. 24 fucking 7. Do you folks sleep, shower, go the church, and fuck with that thing on?

Haha yeah I was wondering what the dame to dong ratio is at a gathering such as this. Can't be very good especially in such a remote locale. Or maybe they go Bohemian Grove style and post dudes only at the gate

The information posted is whats available. It's pretty clear that there is going to be an event in N. Cal. If you don't want to be on the mailing list for the event then you don't have to sign up. Not sure what all the ruckus is for.

Seems like they are putting on a tree-related event and the details are not set as of yet? Knowing Treestuff and A-Plus it seems pretty legit to me? They did partner up for some cool parties recently and I would guess this will be another event with some new twists? I'm actually intrigued. Look forward to seeing what unfolds.

Hey, I'm a recent convert to a Proto's helmet.
If the first helmet that actually fits my melon without wobbling side to side.
The thing might be stupid looking but it's stupid comfortable at the same time.
I do have the more subdued orange and grey (not the Ronald McDonald look) and I will never be caught dead in that flaming Euro garb.

I haven't got around to installing my Sena unit in it yet but when I do I know my ear muffs won't be yanking on the wires anymore.
I also can now work in the rain without rain gear as this helmet provides full body protection from the rain and sun.
The FM reception on my Sena unit is also incredible now, I can pick up stations from the West coast of Japan.

You need to just stop hating and give it a try.
I think I look good in it.

Not trying to pick a fight Nick...just trying to give perspective. I wish you (and others building our industry) nothing but the best. I do think I get why people reacted in a negative way to the original post and linked site. It does really look like a phishing attempt when the only other thing on the website is a form. I don't believe that is what this is about, but I certainly see how one could quickly draw that conclusion.

Is Treetopia:
Looking at trees?
Climbing big trees?
Half a day?
3 days?
Pruning trees in a city?
Showing off tree gear?
Learning from experts?
Designed for peer-to-peer learning?
etc...

Maybe this is something worth thinking about taking a family vacation to northern Cali? Maybe it is not? Don't even know roughly when it is...this summer/fall/2021? Certainly somebody knows something more than "most magnificent tree experience"...right? Even if there are no specifics yet, I'd assume there are some concrete ideas. If nobody knows, what are you asking people to sign up for? At that point it is simply gathering contact information for something, maybe, sometime later possibly...which kinda is phishing. Make it convincing that it is more than that, as I'm sure it is.

Hope it is an awesome event! If it is in 2021 when we don't have other vacation plans it might be worth an excuse to bring the family to northern California; see the redwoods and have a great time at Treetopia. But as of now I have no idea so I'm not on that list.

"Signing up will add you to a mailing list for this event. No other personal information will be collected."

It took me ten seconds to solve this problem. Without it, the click bait looks exactly like the credit card and phishing scams everywhere on the internet. The information you provided is next to nothing. It's what you didn't say that is worrying. A simple explanation of the data entry form doesn't ensure that the information won't be added to a spam list, but it at least gives the visitor an idea of why the link goes to a data collection form, and we can make a decision whether we feel TreeStuff is trustworthy enough to risk providing the information.

What level of cynicism allows you to believe that mystery data collection forms are completely innocuous, harmless web site components that we shouldn't be the least bit worried about? Do you think spam bot coders within the United States actually disguise their illicit activities with data collection forms that are as obvious as an old woman typing emails in broken English trying to give you tens of millions of dollars from her late husband's estate?
