Trees from a distance

Hey EZ!
Yeah, this photo was from the left side of the continent!

**Make sure you sleep with your head elevated (pillows behind your head AND shoulders) for the next few nights it helps keep the swelling down.
Most people I know have wisdom teeth out back in their teens when it is easier on the body -so you have been brave!

Take care,

Manzanita?

[/ QUOTE ]

That is correct (Arctosytaphylos manzanita).

The photo doesn't do the tree's bark justice. It's a beautiful smooth deep red-burgundy color and the limbs and stems twist forming a natural sculpture. This shrub-tree stands at 6 ft.(8 ft. wide) and is 25 yrs. old.
Every so often I like to put up a west coast native just so we all stay well-rounded in our ID skills

Cool!

Ok... I pruned this and 6 others like this yesterday and today. Please forgive the improper looking pruning. This tree was beat up over the years by the school district, and we did the best we could do with it. Not ideal, but still, a very nice tree!

I was stumped when I first saw this tree with no leaves on it. Not a real common tree out here, especially this size.

Funny, I used to HATE manzanita. On my rock climbing excursions, we would do death marches through Manzanita covered slopes.. it would reach out and grab you any chance it got, ripping your shirts, scratching your arms, poking your eyes...

Now, I LOVE it. Wish I could grow it here on the coast!

MTCInc. - You don't have to go without!

There are several coastal manzanitas:
A. 'Pacific Mist' (has the deep-red bark but only 3 ft. high & 10 ft. wide)
A. pajaroensis (Monterey Bay area manzanita)
A. nummularia (Fort Bragg manzanita)

Okay, since all is quiet around here....
I'm putting up this photo in celebration of EZ getting ALL his wisdom teeth out today.
Although, he's probably already asleep for the night... in a rather heavily sedated way.

I wish I could be like you, X. You're so tough you probably don't even have to wipe after taking a crap.

SZ

Good one.

But you broke your own rule about putting your personal crap on this thread. No one cares that you got your wisdom teeth out and went back to work the same day. That's personal crap.

It looks VERY tall for the following species but
maybe Shumard oak (aka: Texas Oak)- Quercus shumardii ?

-Diane-

[/ QUOTE ]

Nope! Hint: Not an Oak. Some consider it a trash tree

The bark looks like Sweetgum to me....but not the leaves.

I'll still guess Liquidambar.

SZ

I don't have a good guess, it looks sorta like an ash to me. The buds don't look right for Liquidamber but I'll side with the phloem of easiness... sweetgum... or Tupelo maybe?
