I'm trying to go off his clues... He's not familiar with this species, but he is probably familiar with the genus. In which case it's probably not a sugar maple, ginkgo, or in Blinky's case, a European Beech.

Tom is picking up what I'm putting down. Common genus for sure, species is first one I've knowingly seen.

I was thinking Tilia as well but can't think of one that fits.

Bam! Robinia got it. Ulmus carpinifolia 'sarniensis'. Smith College in Northampton, ma. The tallest verified dawn redwood in the state is just a few buildings over, again somewhere near 100'. Going to bring rangefinder and clinometer Monday to get concrete numbers. The metasequoia was 96' in 2002, I put a lightning system in it a few months back, good times!

I'm climbing a big metasequoia in January to measure it. I have a couple of seedlings growing as bonzai from that tree.
