Do you tell yourself that every morning in the mirror?

I thought so.

[/ QUOTE ]

Hell yeah I do. You would too.

Everyone has great guesses but none of them are right. Those choices are close to the way that people describe this tree to be similar to many of those you named, but no one has even named the genus yet.

I tell ya, when it's one you see frequently (I have two on my property) you just know it for sure.

Also if anyone posts any of our common native species i have here in Maryland, the answer just hits ya fast, pretty much no matter how bad the picture or how far away.

Tom and Robinia and a few others; you guys amaze me on the knowlege you have on the more exotic stuff. I usually don't get that stuff unless there is a hint or I can see something to track it down on the internet.

TreesPlease, any way to get the answer goes. memory, tree id book, google, hacking into Tom's computer, whatever it takes to get the right answer.

ha ha ha, i won't edit my other post cause it's funny how I said the commmon native species just have the answers hit ya.

yeah, right....

That'll teach me.

Well it is the next day now, so I can guess again.

I haven't seen a big cucumber tree in a long time, but that might be how I remember them looking.

Magnolia acuminata (cucumber-tree)?

That's so funny, I was just talking about this tree with someone earlier in the day. I've only seen a few, one of which I posted here a long time ago.

I thought ash on this tree, too, but X, you guessed white ash, and TreesPlease said it's not a green ash, so I'm staying away from that genus.

I'll guess Juglans nigra?
