Definitely Prunus, is it Prunus cerasifera?

Easy, can I also run this pic in tandem with your ID?

from last week - a North American tree in Scotland being climbed by comrade Bartelski.

Diane and Greg, you are correct! It is indeed Thuja plicata or as I call it....Western Red Cedar - the crushed foliage smells very good. Its a nice tree to work on. Its very similar to both Lawson's Cypress and Leylandii Cypress from a distance.

Acer Japonica mixed with Chebacca ?

[/ QUOTE ]

Hey, it does have that Chebacca-like look!

Actually, this is an odd cultivar of one of the oldest and largest trees in the world.

You are correct, EZ!

The story is that due to its genetic height (but lack of structural girth) this tree gets too tall and always ends up leaning sideways. Then its branches hang down like a curtain.
Supposedly in England there is one at an arboretum that does this and they nick-named it "The car wash".

Well Diane, you did give a huge clue with the "oldest and largest" species thing!

I don't have any pictures on hand, so the floor is open!
