Trees are down!

Yesterday evening around 6PM,

a vicious thunderstorm ripped through the Plaza Midwood section of Charlotte.

I must have seen about 50+ BIG Oaks fallen across streets, onto houses

This tree (a Southern Red Oak) was used as the Masters Challenge in the very first CAA TCC back in '03. Very sad to see it down.

I got the A-Team out first thing this morning to start getting trees off of houses.

I saw a lot of crushed cars.....

In this photo, both of the trunks of this double leader Willow Oak are about 50 inches in diameter, both of them struck apartment homes.

Thankfully, no one was seriously injured that I heard of, but I heard that the winds were clocked at 100 mph (not sure if this is true, but the amount of huge, healthy trees that were flung to the ground seem to support that claim)

We will be working hard to get through the storm work and try to keep up with our regular schedule (which is already backed up from a string of thunderstorms two weeks ago)

Oh well. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. What can you do?

In the last four days I have billed a little over 30,000 so I am more that pleased....... but mentally exhausted, and the guys are near the breaking point. Luckily most of the emergency work has already been completed, and now we go back to the regularly scheduled programming.

Sorry to put this in the crane use thread, if it means anything to ya'll,

we used our crane the whole time!

Is PG still out of town?

Unbelievably, yes.

Usually when a storm hits town, he gets all worked up and those of us who have known him for years dread seeing the "PG Storm Look" that he gets.

But I am also glad to say that we were able to hold down the fort while he was away and bill tens of thousands of dollars in his absence.

That last pic Easy P put up took eight and a half loads of chips, by hand, the first two days and five loads of wood the last. All I can say is "Phewww..... I'm spent." One for the books, as they say.

Easy, I would have come up and joined the party but I was surfing in deep Costa Rica. I was wondering why part of my house blew off up at UNCC. Looked like a super cell must have come through Charlotte.

I remember a big super cell that hit on July 4th, back in the late 90's. It took down that DC-9 just short of the runway that crashed at Charlotte Douglas Airport. I was in another DC-9 on the end of the runway waiting for it to land, in position for take off. Those storms are SICK! It was sunny one moment, with some rain, then all hell broke loose.

Remember Hugo? That was sick. I woke up and drove my FJ-60 landcruiser wagon through yards and over trees to get out of my neighborhood. That was a disaster. Like a bomb went off.

I like the peaceful pruning days now.

I remember the July 4th storm, but was not here for Hugo (thank goodness)

I also prefer peaceful pruning!

Hope you get your place all sorted, if you're in town, look me up!
