FT,
Do you have the small shackles with the nylon inserts? I haven't had any catching issues with my bridge...but I don't use the aluminum ring. I changed it for a smaller stainless steel bow shackle. The shackle has a smaller inside diameter than the al ring so that it is why there isn't a problem.
Cost, performance and value are complicated relationships. When I look back on my harness choices over the years I have found that the cost has gone up everytime that I've bought a new harness. At the same time performance has taken a step up too. This all translates into a high value. My back and hips feel so much better since I decided to find gear and climbing styles that take better care of myself.
It is very likely that high performance harnesses will not have decades long lives like the lower cost harnesses. On the other hand I have to wonder how many other costs will accrue. In my experience the climbers who are using better harnesses tend to be the ones who take better care of themselves and aren't as worn out. They have seen the value in using good gear and good practices.
