Treecare in Korea

I´m back after three weeks on the road in Korea. A very interesting country allthough the food was a bit hard to get used to. Koreans seems to be very fond of trees and they plant in large scale. Usually they plant trees a lot bigger than what we usually do and seemingly with success, in particular with pines. These are often pruned into a bonansai kind of shape. General treecare is a different story, it seemed like I was moved thirty years back in time. I was so lucky to see a crew in action in the oldest temple in Korea, Pulguk Sa. They was painting wounds with a glue like substanse and then covering it with a sandcoating. They had been deadwooding and had cut the deadwood in flushcuts, other places they had pruned leaving all kinds of stubs and tears. They climbed without a harness, not even a bowline on a bight, using the rope to hold in within the tree and for descent sliding down a footlock grip. Trees were infused with 5% glucosis solution, both conifers and broadleaf. All planted trees were rigid staked, not only the big ones. City trees were either rounded over or topped, and all the zelkovas were liontailed. Ill post a number of pics so you can see for yourselves. An ISA chapter in Korea seems like a very good idea.

Could I trouble you to submit copies along the lines of 150KB each? 13 times 4 minutes (or so) each seems a bit much for me to invest in seeing what you've got to offer. Especially so since all that time would totally preclude any other Internet activity.

Thanks,
Glen

In this case I'm going to set up a retrieval while I sleep in a couple of minutes. I should have them here all shiny and ready to view over breakfast.

If I have the time to upload modified versions before you do, I will, but I can't promise anything; I'm already running late for the morning and plan to be gone all day and then some.

The best way to get JPEG images reasonable for dial-up 'web use is to make sure the JPEG "quality" level is no higher than "75", then dimensional changes can be wrought to bring the file sizes in line. I'm guessing something like 800x600, tops.

Thanks,
Glen

#2 (the actual posted order may vary since I'm firing them all off in quick succession)
