KUSA - According to the Better Business Bureau, the Longmont Police Department have arrested Ollie Eddington for grossly overcharging a 93-year-old woman for tree trimming work.
According to the BBB, Eddington invited himself into the woman's backyard and tried to convince her he was there to repair her roof. When she did not believe him, he told her he could trim her tree. She agreed to allow him to do this and after cutting four to six small branches he told her she owed him $2,400. She told him that was an outrageous price. He offered to reduce the price and she wrote him a check for $2,200 because she felt scared.
Eddington is currently being held in the Boulder County Jail and the police's report further states he is also on probation in Georgia for exploitation of the elderly. In Georgia, he is not allowed to work with anyone over the age of 70.
The Boulder County Sheriff's Office and Boulder Police Department are also investigating cases against Eddington and his employees. They do work under the business name, "Tree Guys." A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Cloyde Kyle and police are still investigating Ollie Eddington, Jr. The investigation found that Eddington and his crew may have done work at 15 other locations in Longmont.
Anyone with information on further work done by Eddington's business "Tree Guys" or Ollie Eddington should contact Det. Stephen Desmond at 303-774-4590.
"The elderly are preyed upon because they tend to be vulnerable for many reasons," Dale Mingilton, President and CEO of the BBB Serving Denver/Boulder, stated in a release. "The BBB constantly tries to warn this demographic about being taken advantage of and how to avoid these situations."
The BBB advises the elderly to:
• not allow themselves to be pressured into transactions
• never give out personal and/or financial information to unknown solicitors
• always check companies out with the BBB first at denver.bbb.org or 303-758-2100.
