Tree ID help

This may be a very easy ID, but for some reason or another I am struggling with it. The bark looks like any of a number of things. The bark in the canopy looks like alder, birch (darker grey than I would be used to), maybe some other things as well. It is in Hennepin County, MN. Any ideas?

Don't know Minnesota very well but is it possibly a maple? Some older ones get shaggy bark like that. The bark will certainly help others that know the area ID it though.

That is what it looked like to me too (a Silver Maple) but it is only 6 ft in circumference and I didn't see any maple leaves around.

They call those water maples round here. I know them as Silver Maple.
