tree felling with POV1 helmet cam

Oooh, all James Bond and stuff!

James bond is a chump, I dont know what all those girls see in him.

The wrist-remote works well though, I think its a good idea.

The video was great. I was hoping to see the helmet cam shot while you were chunking as well as the one you showed.

I've got to give that knotless rigging a try. It looks so much easier and faster.

That's a fun video reg, I think it would be a lot more bewildering to those not used to swinging around in trees. Nice rigging and nice precise spur placement on those skinny limbs. Is that single-action autolock biner?

I just bought one of the Digital Hero 3 cameras, this is the website: http://goprocamera.com/

They're pretty reasonable and they seem to be bombproof as well as waterproof. I bought the wrist attachment model, I'm going to rig something up to put it on a hard-hat, but I thought the wrist band could also be used to set it up on a limb in tree.

Thanks Gord

Ive watched it afew times now and it is starting to grow on me. I just found the editing more difficult than the previous vids, maybe because I left it recording for long
periods to see what worked and what didn't. Most of it just looked weird though, and was difficult to distinguish. Next time I'll make a better job of it.

Good luck with the digi-hero, look forward to seeing how it works out.

That biner was a double, up first and then twist. Most of those branches were relatively light but I still put in a half hitch, sometimes 2, just to take the sting out of it.

Marc H, the batteries was running low when I got to the last few chunks and kept cutting out just at the crucial moment. Luckily I had the other camera in the truck anyway. Next time!!

I didn't know Eucs grew in the U.K.

Nice video Reg. The camera looks pretty sweet too. I just got an Oregon Scientific Helmet camera. Its all self contained so the camera is bigger than the one you have. How did mounting it go? I'm working on setting it up right now so that it gives the best view of whatever I'm working on or doing, and that is giving me a little bit of trouble. I think these cameras offer a great perspective on things, and the videos can teach a lot.

treelearnin, See attatchments.

I driiled out 4 tiny holes and then ran plastic cable-ties through to hold the bracket in place. The camera just slides over that bracket.

JaminMayer, Eucs actually grow very well here, although not as fast further North.

You like that husq helmet Reg? I thought you might use a Petzl Ecrin type with the more secure chinstrap?

Here's one we did recently Jamin, a biggie euc for Scotland, tiny by Australian and US west coast standards.

I think the species that grows here is Eucalyptus gunni.

Don't be too critical of yourself...I think the video was fine. I liked seeing how you ascended, rigged and made your cuts...also liked seeing how you looked around checking and rechecking "stuff" before and while cutting.

That top coming off at 10:30 was smooth, not much bronco there. You were on some pretty skinny stuff, for sure. Looked good from this angle.
