Tree climbing road trip

Sounds like a blast! I would have to go packed in someone's luggage though.

Bike box or large snowboard bag? :) Might have to take your arms and legs off with a Silky.

Not sure my mates speedy sticker would do a surgical reattachment.

This is all sounding bad for your health. A ticket would be better!

Keep the ideas flowing guys, there's been some really good stuff.

I'll like to get the idea out to a local person in the next couple of weeks. I want to see them in person. I know I have two trips out of town over the next few weekends so this will be tricky to schedule in. I'll report more when I know more.

I next need my wife on board and some dates. Not much can be planned without those two items. I'd really like to give this a go. Trip agenda can flow from there.

If we timed it early Feb, there's an arborists group that camps on a farm at the beach in Northland we could ask to connect with. Last year they ran a mini SRT workshop.

cheers

I'd go birding in emergent trees in Suriname, with a tree boat and spotting scope. If you get a tree that is fruiting and set up next to it I imagine you could do some damage....

Some posts in another thread has me thinking about a climbing road trip here in NZ. Maybe a Buzz special for those interested.

What are something things you'd want in a climbing road trip? I am sure a few of you have done this. @Stihlmadd I remember was in America last year and posted some great pics and stories.

Some definites are rec climbing and visiting some beautiful places, but what would make those things great? Types of trees, spreading vs height, local native species vs exotics?

What other things that would be good? Camping, local cafes and bars for cold beers?

What are people's ideas of a great climbing road trip?
be sides big awesome trees in awesome places?
Motorcycles? Mountain biking?white water kayaking? Surfing? Skiing? Some helicopters?
Pull it together,I'm in.

Guy who works for me spent 3 years in NZ doing invasive vegetation management. I guess some "scientists" introduced some rather invasive trees back in the day...
6-10hour days a week, lived out of a back pack. Drove 4x4 vans to the lz, got heli rides up, then cut their way down. He pines about it every now and then.

One guy I met on a river white water kayaking would go there for 6mo rent a house, buy a car and play.

Supposed to be, the place to be for action adventure folks, like tree guys. Also, I guess the place to be if the shit goes down economically in the developed world...must be some food and water there eh? I do love grass fed lamb rare!!!

I got fam in Suriname. Building a house in the jungle-can't wait to go-maybe I won't come back .

I'm in. I have always wanted to climb some trees in NZ. My wife says she is going to join also. Maybe I can set up some job interviews when I'm there! February could work depending on flight prices. Cheers!

Sounds great. No dates set yet, but Feb is a likely time. That is peak summer so flights will be more than now when it's wet and cold.
