Traction for boots

Slips and falls ar high on the accident list. Yesterday morning I walked out to my car. It had snowed but I didn't pay attention to the parking lot. It looked fine. but...there was a layer of ice with some grit poking through. Not enough for traction so I got a little whoopie step. No fall, good thing.

This morning I got a safety magazine from the National Safety Council. One of the advertisers has some interesting looking boot traction devices. I could see these being used for working in icy trees. Since some of the gripping systems are critty we wouldn't have to worry about wounding the trees like when spikes or crampons are used. The spiky ones could be used by groundies.

how about this?

petzl spiky

any thoughts on how this would wound trees, my thoughts of its use were slidly beech (fagus) and sycamore (acer)

ut they are both relativly thin barked

I wouldn't like to see any of the spiky grippers used on trees. especially thin barked ones. There as been times when my climbing boots scrape up the bark too much for my comfort.

There are some short pointed rigid frame, flexible crampons made for runners that could have merit in trees for removals or ice covered.

These will stop granny taking a spill on the Ice

Crampon slippers.............or maybe Ninja boots !!!!!!!

My conscious memory goes back to being about seven years old. But it seems like there is some kind of memory buried in my genes back to a day when more of life was spent in the tree than on the ground.
