toss wand

any of you guys using the toss splicing wand? what do you use for replacement loops? and what knot do you tie thats big enough to not slip through but small enough for the caseing to go over?

Yeah I use it for splicing climbing ropes and double braids, great tool, much easier than using a fid. I havn´t broken the loop yet but maybe some strong dental floss will do the trick? For knot I usually make a couple of loops, stick the tail in and tighten up, works in most cases.

I make mine out of vectran. I just use scraps from rope I splice, take 3 pieces a bit thinner than dental floss, then just braid them together and tie it into a loop. I use the wand a lot and these snares are only replaced once or twice a year.

Norms idea is much faster though!

I bought one of the origional wands that had a wire loop crimped on the inner shaft. It actually damaged the outer shaft a little, nothing too drastick but enough to cause some aggravation when inserting on occasion. I modified that one to take thread, then bought one of the super long units as well. Now I just use the outer shaft then push up some zing-it for the snare.

I've used a bent metal coat hanger and the Toss wand. Maybe just personal preference, but I liked the coat hanger a little better than the wand (heck of a lot cheaper too...)
