BOUNTIFUL, Utah - A 2-year-old was shocked by a high voltage power line that fell onto a swingset at 733 W. 3200 South in Bountiful. Police are calling it a freak accident and Bountiful City Power is cutting down tree branches, one of which police say, fell on a power line that broke, hitting the boy who was swinging on a swingset. Police say the high voltage went up his foot and out his shoulder.
Two-and-a-half-year-old Jake Marland was playing at his aunts house when it happened. The voltage was so strong that police think the heat melted the swing. Police say Jake was conscious when paramedics arrived and a helicopter transported him to the burn unit of the University of Utah Hospital.
"Electrical burns are very serious because it causes internal injuries that they won't know for probably several days," said Sgt. Gary Koehn, Bountiful Police.
