In three years if they don’t lighten up I won’t have to anchor my splicing table/ work bench to the wall and floor. And my dinner table will have to have the house built around it. Next is to mill for my timber framed covered patio. Guy doing the milling is pretty fair on pricing and we get along. Basically I paid two hundred plus food and beer ( after work was done) for roughly 2000 board feet milled. When I do my timber frame he’s going to assist me on it. It’s what he does but I get to do the work with his guidance. Good man to know.

Old tree house dismantle.

Big fir with one branch. Picturesque.

150-180' dead doug-fir dismantle in a gully by houses. Luckily, lots of wind by the time I dropped a 30' top...only hinge for the tree.
Gord's Magic Cut all the way to a wildlife spar of 40'.

Haphazard picture order...sorry.

Not going to lie, I'd be scared to drop something that heavy onto a road, even onto a perpendicular log like you have here. Too worried I'd punch a hole and have to pay for massive repairs.... All our gravel roads/driveways are somewhat fragile in that respect, when you break the hard packed layer, rain will cause erosion in a hurry.

This tri-color brought her kittens into our yard about a month ago, ran my cat off, and hasn't left. I need to round these up and take them to a vet... fixed, shots, etc. or take them to the shelter, which I hate to do. They get loaded up with them and even though they're a no-kill facility, they will euthanize them if they get so many that they start running out of funds feeding them.

Anyone know how old kittens need to be before you can have them neutered?

It varies by vet. Some will do it when they reach 2 pounds, some would rather wait till 4 pounds. These appear to be big enough. It will take a phone call to your vet to find out for sure.

We're lucky to have a low-cost neuter/spay clinic for cats and dogs in our community. I helped them out several years ago when I was doing welding and fabrication work at the local technical college by designing and building these folding racks for their van to hold their cages.

It was a community effort between the local steel supplier, the local powder-coating company, and myself.

Getting four cats fixed can be costly, so ask your shelter and vet about any low-cost spay/neuter services in your area. Also search for TNR (Trap - Neuter - Release) and Cat Rescue groups, especially on Facebook, in your area. Sometimes, you can add your cats to a TNR group and get them all done for free. They may do it with only certain vets and only on certain days, and they may tip the cat's ear. I am grateful you are doing this. It's important. These four can explode to dozens very quickly.

Yeah, that's the problem. We own two properties in one town, and another in a town 7 miles away... both towns are just loaded with stray cats. I've tried to get some of the multiple-cat-owning neighbors to get their critters fixed and vaccinated, even offered to pay half the bill. Nothing will make them do it. What's funny is that if someone's dog gets loose, they act like they've been attacked by aliens and demand immediate action. It's crazy.

I've been trying to find a TNR in the area, but haven't had any luck. I did find a local vet that is already priced lower than most, and I'm working with her to see if we can do a kind of "bulk rate" deal. I also talked with a local farmer who actually would like to have some of them for rodent control, so I'm going to work with him, too, to find other local farmers who would at least be willing to pay a fee to cover the neutering/shots. Maybe we can get attitudes to change with a little PR work.

All these cats are good mousers... even the kittens are already catching them... so they'd make good barn cats. But, they still can't be allowed to breed like cockroaches. We also have lots of raccoons that live right in town, and they share a lot of diseases with the cats. We've already had to trap and euthanize a couple of really sick cats in our yard. It breaks my heart to see any animal suffer needlessly. I don't blame the cats... I blame the cat owners.

Some days it's discouraging to be a tree man. In the past two days my sk850 has blown a line down inside it somewhere and is pouring hydraulic fluid, my bandit 990xp ate one of the last chance cables and wrapped it up in the feed wheel, and the 3126 in my bucket truck started pouring oil from somewhere behind the air compressor.
When it rains it pours
And
When it’s dry it’s dusty

happens to the all of us
Bad days only brings good days

Don’t feel too bad, I’m right there with you! I’ve had three trucks lose transmissions this year, one has been down six months because the parts are on back order. Chipper shut down two weeks ago, and this week it blew a clutch. Skidloader just ate an ignition switch and then immediately let the smoke out of the fuel solenoid.
