tips from customers

Tips are always divided amongst the crew equally. The only exception to this is when the client themselves allocate differing amounts by handing the money to each person. Side job cash goes to the company period.

wise man once said---never, never, never turn down food or money when someone offers it to you in kindness. Always take the tips and be gracious and thankful. If someone half-heartedly offers you a tip because of guilt or pressure, or any other reason, politely refuse and let your reward be a job well done.
Owners should split tip only if they participated equally on the job, but really the money should go to the rest of the crew. Owners should be aware of larger tips that go to the crew and verify the money was actually tip money, and not money for additional work or side work (we know this can happen). I have on occasion written a thank you letter to a big tipper and had the crew sign at the bottom, to thank them for their business, and their extra generosity at the end of the job.

i don't get why you think the owner shouldn't be tipped? are you saying if they're not working on the crew?

In service industries it is not necessary to tip the owner............is the way it was explained to me.

I dont take tips from my customers. I find my little bonuses along the way on jobs that go faster than expected. I always just hand tips off to the guys that work for me. They really appreciate it and they almost always deserve it. Now, sometimes customers are overly thrilled with our work and add a hundred bucks or so to the job price. I keep that. But cash tips, I dont take em for me.

That was essentially my point, last week we I got a $500.00 tip I was not just handing that out to my 2 employees but they did get an extra $50.00 spot each from the job.

I worked for a "friend" this morning.
I craned 4 large FAT palms out of this ladies yard VERY fast. The palms went in 3 picks each. Stumps ground and Everything cleaned up in less than 2 1/2 hours time.
The job was for 1750.00.
I watched the customer give my "friend" 100 dollars and she says,"take the guys to lunch or something, you guys deserve it."
He put it in his pocket and never said a word.
I told his FULL time crew what he did.
They were not surprised.
He is a real weenie huh?
I plan to refer him to this thread.
peace out
