Throwing axe setup

Baileys has some nice axes.
I used to love to throw, along with archery, I stacked 3 30 inch or so pine logs in a triangle. Worked well.

She plays an autoharp too. And sings the bloo hoo hoos! She used to set up an exagerated safety zone behind the slab and tripod. You can also set up straw bails behind but of course this requires a lot of room and a lot of staw.

Bailey's for sure.

Nice shaped axe, sticks very good, even on top.

use a huge diameter softwood tree round as the target.

ours is a White Cedar, about 24" diameter.

I cut off a 10" black walnut tree, that was alive and still is. cut it about 5 or 6 feet high, trimmed top to wedge shape.

cut similar hole in side of cedar round. stuck it on top.

painted red rings, you throw at the grain ring side of the round.

this was maybe 6 years ago? the post of black walnut stays alive, keeps sprouting, therefor stays sturdy. The cedar target does not rot up in the air.

Wood chip pile behind target.

People still can throw high, axe can go another 30 feet past that sometimes, so have nothing important behind target.

That cedar target was from around 2001 I think. I never treated it or anything. I had it on a post for several yrs at first. Some decay now.

Like I said, post now is a living post, a blk walnut, keeps resprouting. Repeatedly hacked up by axe contest once a year.

Is the target above or at head height? I don't think that's big enough for me. Something maybe the size of a barn I'm thinking. Thanks for the pics.
